Pretty busy at #GDC2019 this year and when asked for my reel, I realized I didn't have one. So, I jumped into (not so) good old iMovie and a few hours later slapped this together. It's not all-encompassing, but gives a good snapshot of the past 35 years. youtu.be/JWP8vXleu8A

@SpawnYaardReply Technically... Yes. Not saying I know what they're doing, just saying I know people there, people that've been there, what I was told inquiring previously about IPs and how the biz works. Plus, there's the Paramount Factor. To the new owners, games might be a rounding error.

I fondly remember playing Matrix: Path of Neo. How can we convince WB to remake this game?

@Tofke_ @zachtothefuller @maximilian_ One time while I was producing an album for a local artist, I asked her to hold a note a wee bit longer and go flat at the end. She was appalled and asked why anyone would do that. I told her, “that’s the funk, the soul, the thing that feels like it’s real”. This was ~1990

@Twitchfactor @zachtothefuller @maximilian_ That's why I don't think A.I. will ever be on the same level. It will get close but it won't ever get that soul right. It will also strip imperfections (not talking hallucinations or glitching) which strips a piece of its originality/personality.

@VoidmawGames Most people spend years upon years trying to make their magnum opus only to find it does horribly or they realize they could’ve made more working at fast food. Also, game making is draining, even in AAA, let alone “indie”.

Fun fact: 75% of indies on Steam only release one game. Which is interesting... because once you ship your first game, youve already done the hardest part. The pipelines exist, connections are made, lessons are learned. A second project in theory, should be easier to produce.

@Twitchfactor @zachtothefuller @maximilian_ And I actually think the amount of spam we can expect in our future will make a lot of people look for authenticity - a bit like reverse 80s/90s where you had to search for amazing stuff because there was no info, no you have to look for it because all the spam.

@TooOldTooCold @zachtothefuller @maximilian_ Don't confuse the desire for someone to practice, perfect (a never-ending pursuit) and hold true passion as some sort of "I struggled, you have to struggle" gatekeeping. The world is already flooded with low-effort media, destroying respect for craft and even the slop put out.

@Twitchfactor @zachtothefuller @maximilian_ I don't think it's is or should be "struggle/difficulty" = "art". But I think the key from above video is "you have something to say". If that comes easy, because I might have XP, it's still art.

@Lockie_Glizzy I like to take the dna of retro games, when gameplay was king, and fuse them with visuals of today. It doesn’t seem to resonate with today’s gamers, but hopefully there are enough out there who dig what I do.

I spend a lot of time looking for indie games worth getting excited about. Sometimes the algorithm helps. Sometimes I get distracted by a news event and the algorithm completely changes my feed. So let’s try something. Glizzy’s next showcase is coming up, and I’m looking for devs building something that doesn’t fit anywhere else. Niche, strange, ambitious, half-finished but full of soul - I want to hear about it. Drop your game below. Tag a dev who deserves eyes on their work. Okay algorithm. Show this to the right people. No pressure…

@mjarbo @davidscottjaffe @SinnersMovie I think if you just look at it as, “Black Dusk till Dawn”, it might seem tacked on, but there really are many layers to the movie. Example; the key vamp is Irish not to say “white ppl bad” but actually a commentary on assimilation.

FINALLY got around to @SinnersMovie movie. Yeah, yeah, late as hell to the party. But goodness, that was great! So wonderful to see a big-ish budget movie movie with a strong, singular vision these days. Esp a genre one.

1000 dev employees run about a quarter billion dollars a year in Commiefornia. If you want to run a charity you can start one right now, but people with a quarter bil don't want to watch it melt to inflation so a bunch of people can be on welfare instead of having a little straight talk time with the whole ass game director that took that job knowing those were his literal responsibilities. Not only are execs not immune to consequences, but their labor is way more important and does more to actually produce things.
