In a massive 9-1 ruling, Brazil's Supreme Court has ruled that homophobic hate speech is now punishable by prison. Now on the same legal level as racist hate speech, perpetrators of the crime will face two to five years in prison. Justice Edson Fachin, the lead judge on the case, said in his ruling it was a "constitutional imperative" to give LGBTQ+ citizens equal protection under the law. Congratulations on this legal win, Brazil! 🇧🇷

We are saddened and angered at the recent news from the Saskatchewan government. We are in contact with affected members, and will continue to work with them to fight this unfounded and dangerous directive. Full statement to follow.

Parents must be included in all important decisions involving their children. Education Minister Dustin Duncan today announced that all Saskatchewan schools will have a consistent policy on parental inclusion and consent. 🧵

The new parental inclusion and consent policies are dangerous and a threat to the safety and well-being of students. The Federation is calling on the government to reverse this policy decision and engage in meaningful consultation with its sector partners and expert teachers.
