8:30pm The cold front is about 2 hours or so from reaching the Morrill and Cottonwood Fires in Nebraska. The front just blew thru Casper, Wyoming with a quick 25° temperature drop and rain quickly transitioning to snow. The front is about 3-4 hours from Denver. Winds along the behind the front are gusting out of the north between 40-60mph based on many surface observations. By the time many of us wake up Sunday morning, wind chills will be in the single digits and teens. This includes western Kansas. Further south of I-70 you go, the “warmer” it gets. In the mountains, they’ll be below zero. Still expecting areas of rain, maybe a couple of thunderstorms, and snow with embedded squalls to accompany the front and then linger behind it. If for some reason you’re traveling overnight, you will encounter very strong north/south crosswinds as well as difficult travel and poor visibility especially on I-80, I-76 and I-70. Winds east of I-25 backed out of the northeast last night funneling smoke from fires in Wyoming and Nebraska into Northern Colorado. Thick smoke here in Greeley this morning and the smell is awful. 

Fire appears to be burning along Highway 287, south of Terry Lake. A recent wind gust in Laporte was recorded at 73 mph out of the west. If you live west of Gregory Road and north of Vine Drive, prepare to leave NOW. Do not wait until smoke or flames are on top of you. Get your essentials together and be ready to go immediately.
