15/17 Being a respiratory therapist for more than 20 years, I am used to being overlooked by the healthcare system. And no, we do not do this work for the recognition. That said, this oversight is too much to ignore. It is not ok.

14/17 Illinois should include respiratory therapists (and frankly, many other professionals) alongside nurses, physicians, and other front-line providers, ensuring their contributions are valued.

13/17 Illinois can send a powerful message of gratitude and support by formally designating respiratory therapists as front-line providers. This designation would bolster the morale of these dedicated professionals and inspire those considering a career in respiratory care.

12/17 This recognition is not just a matter of semantics; it's an acknowledgment of their expertise, commitment, and sacrifices to achieve better patient outcomes.

11/17 I hope Illinois will rectify this oversight and acknowledge the vital contributions of respiratory therapists as front-line providers.

10/17 Illinois risks undervaluing these professionals by omitting them from the Frontline Healthcare Worker Fee Waiver. Like their counterparts in nursing, medicine, and other fields, RTs faced the risks head-on, standing strong in the face of an unprecedented healthcare crisis.

9/17 Respiratory therapists were and continue to be essential in the fight against COVID-19, providing care to patients struggling with respiratory distress. Their expertise extends beyond the pandemic; they care for countless patients with various respiratory conditions.
