@spetku @tymkrs Ah so I had it backwards literally. I’d not a translucent display over opaque film. It’s translucent film over an opaque screen.

@c0d3w4rri0r @spetku Oled that shows what's not on the film cell. So for example, the roof cell - what's on the film cell (business card) is what you see here. What's white, is what shows up on the screen.

@tymkrs @spetku So it’s basicly just an oled / lcd screen then that replicates a variation of the image on film?

@AndrewBatz Remember, to see the "on/off" switch on the computer, open the blinds. But to use the computer, close the blinds :). And if the computer doesn't work, was the electrical master switch turned on? #discbadge

@c0d3w4rri0r @spetku The theme was film noir, so the #discbadge itself was a camera that you could put "film cells" in and out of - made out of transparent business cards with @spetku's art. twitter.com/tymkrs/status/…
The Toymakers@tymkrs

The #disc2022 badge - w/a theme of film noir - had 339 animation frames triggered by 5 "film cell" cards - a Map, Office, Roof, Street, and Control Room. The Map card would take you to a particular industry and the other cards would take you to a specific room of that industry.

@spetku Ok but what is it? It reminds be a bit of an old mechanical tv looking at it but apparently it takes some sort of film in the back end?

@AaronMVernon M3 hex allen key and tell her to take it apart :). Only thing I'd be careful of is reseating the screen in the 3d printed part. If the screen comes out of the connector, there's a tiny little lever on the connector itself - just lift, reseat the screen and push down the lever!

@tymkrs She’s a future engineer and was inspecting it closely and wondering how it was physically built. And then asked about last year’s badge (which I sadly never solved).

I had such a great time learning and catching up with people at #DISC2022 yesterday. And I managed to finish the #DISCbadge this morning. My daughter was so impressed with it - thanks @tymkrs.

@Hak4Kidz @Goetzman @DragosInc I think @m_p_cowell might be writing up a blog post (though maybe the ppt is enough :)). But his previous tweets and this thread twitter.com/tymkrs/status/… provide a lot of background :) Glad you like it!
