Without the fans…there would be no ticket sales, no television coverage, no sponsorship nor increased salaries.
The day after losing 1-0 to Japan in a gallant, hard fought final of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, the fans stood in the hot sun at Tumbalong Park waiting for an hour to cheer on their heroes and to let them know they support them no matter what.
It’s a shame the players couldn’t share some of the same enthusiasm.
It is completely understandable that losing sucks, but today was the day to say thanks to the fans.
What’s the old saying, ‘Be humble in victory, gracious in defeat’? That’s the mark of true professionals.
