One of the reasons Spanish social housing is *so good*, is architects have abandoned the ‘double-loaded corridor’ Instead apartments are accessed from decks or terraces, which creates dual aspects homes that benefit from more sun and cross ventilation

I’ve been posting examples of great social housing in Spain for a while now, so @dwell asked me to write about what makes it so good dwell.com/article/why-is…

We know cycling is good for those who do it. But is it also good for everyone else—even those who do not cycle? The best way to answer this question is through #Bikenomics, a now widespread term that indicates economic thinking applied to cycling. WATCH: youtu.be/d9a1UTO1Kig

At @urbanadvisory we have been working hard to create this nationwide survey about housing choices, tradeoffs and experiences in Aotearoa NZ. Great to read thoughts from @urbanistfromwhk on how this data could help our housing in NZ! Check out survey at nzhousingsurvey.co.nz

A marvellous thread on mews courts by @stevemouzon - they are one of the most resilient, adaptable and downright attractive forms of gentle density. Built to boundary, masonry, terraced, with narrow streets; it's how to develop urban land in a way that will work for centuries.
Steve Mouzon@stevemouzon

Mews courts should be affordability champions on several counts, including the fact that they're very grade-adaptable because they tend to be narrow; a 28 foot face is common so they can step nimbly down a slope. And you can take a steeper dive entering and exiting.

I have a long feature in the new Listener, looking at the purge on walking and cycling infrastructure in the draft Transport GPS. It's highly out of step with the ambitions of local authorities – and with what's happening in the rest of the developed world.

Paris is in the middle of a plan to transform into a 100% cycling city. They are also poised to introduce “pedestrian hearts” in each district, inspired by Barcelona’s superblocks, reserving areas for pedestrians, cyclists & public transport. @MomentumMag momentummag.com/paris-to-showc…
