GLOBAL AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS LOOK FORWARD TO THE 2027 IFATCA CONFERENCE IN KAMPALA The Minister of Works and Transport, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala has confirmed that Uganda will be hosting the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations (IFATCA) Global Conference in 2027. This was affirmed in remarks delivered on his behalf by the Deputy Director General of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, Ms. Olive Birungi Lumonya, at the 36th IFATCA Africa and Middle East Regional Meeting, held from November 3–5, 2025, in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Uganda expects to host about 600 delegates from 132 countries for the global event, having won the bid to host it at the recent IFATCA Global Conference held in Abu Dhabi in May 2025. Speaking on behalf of the Minister, Ms. Lumonya told African delegates attending the regional meeting that the theme of this year’s gathering, “Policy Leadership for a Safer Sky: Advancing Strategic Human Capital Development in Air Traffic Management,” reminds us that even in an era of automation and technology, people remain the heartbeat of aviation safety. “In Uganda, we continue to invest in our people through training, in modern air navigation systems, and in regional cooperation. We are enhancing aviation infrastructure, strengthening search and rescue capabilities, and fostering collaboration across our region,” she said. Gen. Katumba, who also serves as the Patron of the Uganda Air Traffic Controllers’ Association (UGATCA), continues to provide the Association’s members with invaluable guidance drawn from his vast experience in leadership and corporate governance. For over 60 years, IFATCA has been a strong voice for air traffic controllers, championing professionalism, promoting cooperation, and ensuring that the skies remain safe and efficient.
