Hello! We are University of Iowa students with Scholars at Risk, advocating for the academic freedom of intellectuals around the world. Our team is focusing on Uyghur intellectuals in China, many of whom face imprisonment or harm because of their studies and beliefs.

The international community needs to come together and speak out against China's treatment of Uyghurs and work together to protect and preserve Uyghur culture #UIowaSAR

It's important to remember on this day dedicated to celebrating Uyghur culture, that there are thousands of Uyghurs in Xinjiang that are unable to take part and honor their own culture. Uyghur culture is consistently suppressed by the Chinese government

The Chinese govt continues to eradicate Uyghur culture. Much of this takes place within a larger context of China's extensive assimilation campaign stretching back decades.

Our team has shared that the meetings with Iowan Senators went very well! Both seemed very interested in helping our scholars and the Uyghur population. We hope this is the first step towards US officials speaking out against the situation in Xinjiang.

With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we know it is now more important than ever to advocate on behalf of Uyghurs and intellectuals. They are being persecuted and left some of the most vulnerable to COVID-19. #ProtectIntellectuals #UIowaSAR

The Chinese government has reported a decline in confirmed cases of COVID-19, yet a media blackout of the internment camps in Xinjiang persists. With no information coming out from Xinjiang, the true situation of COVID-19 in China is unknown.
