At the end of a heartening mission to Syria, I went back to the Old City to reflect on how far we have come since my last visit in December 2024, and the challenges and opportunities ahead.

لم يكن من الممكن تصوّر القيام بمثل هذه الزيارة عند تولّي هذا الدور في عام 2023. لقد شهدت المرحلة الماضية تغييرات كبيرة، وأسهمت في إحداث تحول جوهري في العلاقات بين المملكة المتحدة و سورية . نتطلع إلى مواصلة تطوير هذه العلاقة، سنواصل الوقوف إلى جانب السوريين في السنوات المقبلة.

وسعدتُ بشكل خاص بالمشاركة في فعالية @SBBC_London للاحتفاء بالتجارة بين 🇸🇾 🇬🇧، والتي سجلت زيادة بنسبة 400% مقارنة بالعام الماضي. تؤكد المملكة المتحدة التزامها بدعم سورية في إعادة بناء اقتصادها وتهيئة الظروف الملائمة لتعزيز التجارة والاستثمار.

شكّلت زيارة هذا الأسبوع إلى لندن محطة مفصلية في مسار العلاقات بين المملكة المتحدة وسورية، حيث شملت لقاءات عدة تخللها جولة في البرلمان لإجراء مناقشات حول سيادة القانون والتعددية السياسية و لقاء مع جلالة الملك في قصر باكنغهام.

على هامش زيارة فخامة الرئيس أحمد الشرع إلى المملكة المتحدة، التقيت في لندن بالكابتن مايا غزال، أول طيار سورية لاجئة تعمل ضمن طواقم شركة TUI Airways. قصة مايا تمثل نموذجاً سورياً مشرفاً للإصرار والنجاح، وتعكس الإمكانيات الكبيرة لكفاءاتنا في الخارج. أكدتُ خلال اللقاء دعمي الكامل لدور المرأة في قطاع الطيران، ووجهت لها الدعوة للانضمام مستقبلاً إلى الخطوط الجوية السورية ضمن خطط التحديث والتطوير. نؤمن أن إعادة بناء قطاع الطيران تبدأ بالاستثمار في الإنسان السوري أينما كان، وفتح الأبواب أمام الكفاءات الوطنية للمساهمة في نهضة هذا القطاع وفق أعلى المعايير الدولية. #الجمهورية_العربية_السورية #الهيئة_العامة_للطيران_المدني_السوري

Important report and findings for justice and accountability in Syria.

Recently visited a mine-clearance site in Jobar and saw the scale of danger first-hand. Since Dec 2024, over 1000 causalities from unexploded ordnance have been reported including 400+ deaths (1/3 children). Grateful to @theHaloTrust, @DanChurchAid & others for their vital work.

Productive meeting with the Syrian Minister of Defence, discussing regional developments and other matters of mutual interest. We remain committed to continued dialogue and stability in Syria and the region.

This weekend’s incidents underscore how critical it is to strengthen social cohesion for any sustainable political transition in Syria. A peaceful and stable Syria depends on it. I welcome continued efforts to support community integration under the January agreement framework.
