U.S. sanctions on former President Joseph #Kabila are not symbolic; they carry real, global consequences for any government, business, or individual that chooses to engage with him.
Any government, political figure, or institution, including those within the South African (@GovernmentZA) government, across the #DRC, and around the world that assists, works with, provides protection to, or otherwise facilitates activity on Kabila’s behalf is exposing itself to loss of access to the global financial system, blocked transactions, secondary sanctions, asset freezes, and lasting financial and reputational damage. No U.S. person or company will be permitted to engage with you.
Let us be clear. There is no safe workaround. Moving funds through intermediaries, real estate, or informal channels is well understood, monitored, and enforced. This is not a gray area. It is a hard compliance line. President @realDonaldTrump is not President @JoeBiden. Respect the sanctions framework or face the consequences.

#DRC: I would just add that when the US sanctions you it has direct evidence you have used the US dollar or US financial system or global financial system using US dollars - or all three - to pursue criminal activity.
I wonder if @USTreasury will release this evidence to the Congolese public?

Sanctions américaines : ce que le Trésor reproche à Joseph Kabila #RDC 👇 📌 Le Trésor américain, via l’OFAC, a sanctionné ce jour l’ancien président Joseph Kabange Kabila pour son rôle dans le soutien à l’AFC/M23, désignation prise en vertu du décret 13413 tel qu’amendé par le décret 13671. 📌 Selon le communiqué, avec la résurgence de la rébellion M23 et l’AFC, Kabila est rentré en RDC avec l’intention de déstabiliser le gouvernement congolais en apportant son appui aux deux mouvements. 📌 Kabila aurait apporté un soutien financier à l’AFC afin de peser sur la situation politique dans l’est de la RDC. 📌 Il aurait également encouragé des soldats des FARDC à déserter pour rejoindre les rangs de l’AFC dans l’est du pays, dans le but de renforcer le mouvement. 📌 Le Trésor affirme par ailleurs que Kabila a cherché sans succès, à lancer des attaques depuis l’étranger contre les FARDC dans l’est de la RDC. 📌 Enfin, l’ancien chef de l’État aurait œuvré à l’installation d’un candidat opposé au président en exercice afin de regagner de l’influence sur le gouvernement congolais. 📌 Sur ces fondements, l’OFAC a désigné Kabila pour avoir « matériellement assisté, parrainé ou fourni un soutien financier, matériel ou technologique, ou des biens ou services » au M23 et à l’AFC.
