@Young_Anglican The group leaving doesn't get to claim the name. You can be leaving for a really well thought out and valid reason, but you still don't get the name. There's also no guarantee as to how many GAFCON groups will actually leave. The GMC made that mistake in the UMC split

People using the term "Global Anglican Communion" or GAC is a bit silly to me. We are *the* Anglican Communion. They are the Canterbury Communion if you want to call them anything.

@redeemed_zoomer The divide, like so many schisms in church history, is actually cultural and not theological.

It's sad that I, as a Presbyterian, seem to care much more about restoring the Church of England than 90% of Anglicans online

Historic news for global Anglicanism today! - The majority of Anglicans worldwide are, as of today, officially disaffiliated from the Church of England. - GAFCON (Global Anglican Future Conference) has declared itself the Global Anglican Communion. - The Global Anglican Communion (GAC) will have its own Council of Primates, which will elect a chairman, a *primus inter pares* (first among equals)—whose role will supersede that of the Archbishop of Canterbury. - There is "only one foundation of communion, namely the Holy Bible"—there is now no official, institutional inclusion of the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Lambeth Conference (of Anglican bishops in communion with the Church of England), etc., which have "failed to uphold the doctrine and discipline of the Anglican Communion."

@WalkingHymnal The insistence of some to want the Pope to talk about every single bit of minutia is nuts. If he is indeed focusing on larger issues, that will be a good thing for the RCC

Really good stuff from Andrea Gagliaducci's Monday Vatican this week. He notes that the encyclical currently in the works is said to be on the topic of peace. Elsewhere he says, "Leo XIV does not seem to be a Pope who focuses on small practical matters, on what would be called “casuistry.” Instead, Leo XIV addresses great principles. Perhaps this is no longer the time to use the term “non-negotiable principles,” but these principles are always present in the Pope’s teaching. There are no deviations from the truth. There is dialogue, there is understanding, but there are no deviations....So far, one might say that the era of Catholic involvement in popular movements, or of total Catholic sympathy for humanitarian operations, of whatever color, is over. Leo XIV calls, instead, for a return to Christian identity and cooperation in building the civilization of love....Ultimately, Leo XIV is not an “improved Francis,” as some have claimed. Nor can the Pope be interpreted as a “before” or “after,” because he represents a new generation, very different from the one now past. To try and see any continuity with the previous pontificate, even if some elements of Francis’s pontificate obviously remain, is a risky proposition. That said, Leo XIV has begun to introduce his own innovations, and they must be read honestly, neither overestimating nor underestimating them." mondayvatican.com/vatican/leo-xi…

@sola_chad Paul didn't write the Pastoral Epistles. This isn't even recent scholarship. We've known this for centuries.

If your kids are as surprised as your friends on FB about your "sudden" divorce, you failed your children. Being adults and properly communicating what's happening is different than pretending it's fine until it's all official. #Marriage #Church #Divorce #Kids #Parenting

@revbt Joke aside the most incredible thing about watching ER is how the issues of the mid 1990s in American healthcare are still the exact same issues of American healthcare

Watching ER from the very beginning. Currently on season 2 and the most incredible part about that is Trump is on the Epstein list and Republicans are covering up a sex trafficking ring.

From my Christian perspective, I would probably avoid marriage if my flesh was disordered like this. Refraining from marriage would be one way to honor my God (I could argue the same for intersex or homosexual believers). That said, in this case, I would be hesitant to say that this displeases God. I am uncertain

The theological implications of this are fascinating. Apparently, only Abby married Josh so its not polygamy? Could Brittany marry someone else? What does it mean to be one flesh with your spouse when you literally share one flesh with a different person already?
Dr Death@DrDeath1776

I honestly find Abigail and Brittany Hensel fascinating and a testament to human adaptability. I'm really glad they are leading happy lives with Abigail getting married

@PastorDeberny I have way too many questions and have chosen to live in willful and respectful ignorance And yeah, if they had a sacred service, I bet the priest/pastor had a long bit of discernment about these questions

@SteveSkojec Why is this a hill people are willing to fight Twitter theological wars over? If she did/didn't would that actually change your view of faith or salvation? Would it change the sacraments? No. It wouldn't.

So many responses like this still coming in from people who have no idea the Bible wasn't written in English, and that the Greek word adelphoi (ἀδελφοί) doesn't necessarily imply literal siblings, and is the same word St. Paul uses when addressing Christians as "brothers." The worst thing about Protestant exegesis is that it's so often dumb. They'll be overly literal about this, and then look like a fish out of water when Jesus says 1700 times in John 6 that his "flesh is real food" and his "blood is real drink"
Road Glide@RoadGli92041749

@SteveSkojec We believe Mary had multiple children because it is written in the Bible.

@redeemed_zoomer In my experience, non-denoms fall in 3 categories: 1. Baptist Church pretending to not be Baptist 2. Pentecostal Church pretending to not be Pentecostal 3. The true non-denom one offs that burn out at the first difficulty

The insistence from Theo Bros that weak #Apologetics qualify as peer reviewed #scholarship is both hilarious and troubling. They complain about "indoctrination", while simultaneously ignoring entire fields of study because it inconveniences their #theology. #church #pastor

@redeemed_zoomer Yeah...no. The discord theo nerds don't actually know scholarship, rather they rely upon circular arguments to prove their points. They then "call out" the scholar for not giving a simplistic answer when there isn't one to give.
