Discrimination discourages people from accessing health-care services, including #HIV prevention methods, learning their HIV status, enrolling in care, and adhering to treatment. We must protect everyone’s rights to protect everyone’s health. #ZeroDiscrimination

🎧On International Zero Discrimination Day, the South Sudan HIV/AIDS Commission says stigma remains one of the biggest challenges in the fight against the disease. The day is commemorated annually on the 1st of March. t.ly/KieBc

An honour to deliver the Guest Lecture on Social Justice as Public Health at @perryworldhouse. AIDS has never been only a medical issue—it’s a mirror of global inequality. Ending AIDS means confronting the economic, social & political injustices that shape vulnerability. 🔗 unaids.org/en/resources/d… Sharing key points below:

Treatment for people living with both HIV and TB averted 6.8 million deaths between 2010 and 2023. This #WorldTBDay, we highlight the importance of people-centered, stigma-free & integrated services.

In every country surveyed, women living with HIV reported experiencing reproductive coercion or mistreatment in healthcare settings. Gender inequality + HIV stigma = a double burden no one should carry. #ZeroDiscriminationDay #PeopleFirst

1.23 million TB deaths in 2024 – including 150,000 people living with HIV – highlights the urgent need to #EndTB. On #WorldTBDay2026, let's turn commitments to action: safeguard essential services, prevent disruptions, rapidly scale up testing and treatment. Yes! We can #EndTB – Led by countries, powered by people.

I want a world where no woman suffers violence. Where no child grows up in fear. Where girls & boys look ahead and see the same possibilities. Where every person is valued equally. A world where we end suffering. Sharing my interview with @NationAfrica: nation.africa/kenya/news/gen…

@UNAIDS⁩ Programme Coordinating Board,Brasilia The #HIV response taught us that differentiated pricing and voluntary licensing can turn life-saving medicines into global public goods without undermining innovation. COVID showed us what happens when we forget that lesson.

Programmes serving key populations are vital to slow new HIV infections and accelerate progress toward ending AIDS. But funding cuts are undermining these efforts, at a time when HIV is rising fastest among key populations. These services are lifelines. We must protect them.

There is an end to AIDS in sight, if: 1️⃣ Africa fills the HIV response financing gap 2️⃣ We protect the rights of women & girls, and communities at risk 3️⃣ We seize the opportunity of innovations & ensure equitable access for all. My #ICASA2025 message: 🔗 unaids.org/sites/default/…

UNDP had the pleasure of joining the #WorldAIDSDay2025 commemoration in South Sudan, presided over by Vice President H.E. Josephine Lagu Yanga. Speakers highlighted successes, called for increased domestic health funding, an end to stigma and discrimination, and encouraged HIV testing and treatment enrolment for those testing positive. Minister of Health @sarahrial called for resilient, inclusive, people-centred HIV services and renewed health investments, while Res Rep @MohamedAbchir highlighted the link between health and development.

This #WorldAIDSDay, we face a funding crisis threatening decades of progress. Yet in the hardest of circumstances, I am hopeful. I take inspiration from the communities, leaders, and civil society organisations who have rallied to support each other and the HIV response. If governments, communities, and international organisations can come together to unlock domestic HIV financing, protect human rights and gender equality, and make new innovations affordable and accessible for all, we can seize this moment. The world can end AIDS. Sharing my full #WorldAIDSDay2025 message: unaids.org/en/resources/p…

#WorldAIDSDay is a moment to remember those we have lost, and to renew our commitment to the HIV response and to #endAIDS. Nearly a quarter of the world's 40+ million people living with HIV are not on treatment. Yet, in the hardest of circumstances, I have seen this year, countries & communities overcome disruption and push toward more sustainable, inclusive and nationally owned HIV responses. Ending AIDS as a public health threat is within our grasp — we must seize the moment now. Lives are at stake.

Today marks the start of #16Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. GBV including digital violence pushes girls out of school. Out-of-school girls are more vulnerable to HIV, exploitation & early pregnancy. Ending violence is essential to keep girls safe and in school. #EndGBV #EndAIDS
