After 4 weeks of background work, we have finally arrested Muzahura John Baptist, a Senior Clinical Officer of Nyamuyanja Health Center IV in Isingiro District who has been on run after being illegally found with over 500,000 doses of antiretrovirals (ARVs) at his home in Nyamitanga, Mbarara city. The NDA team also recovered at his home 2680 doses of antimalarials and 11,500 malaria testing kits and other assorted medicines including amoxicillin sodium injection, gentamicin injection, calcium lactate tablets, povidone iodine, amoxicillin, all bearing marks applied on the stores under the control of the ministry of health “Government of Uganda for public use only not for sale” that together with his accomplice, Balhubasa Bridget, a Health Information Assistant and Stores In-Charge at the same facility had stolen from a government health facility. Bridget that was arrested two weeks ago was yesterday sentenced to 3 years in prison by the Isingiro Chief Magistrate’s Court.

UPDATE: @UNDAuthority together with @PoliceUg, has arrested a clinician, and a health information assistant at Nyamuyanja Health Center IV in Isingiro District, for alleged involvement in the theft of government drugs. According to NDA spokesperson @AbiazRwamwiri, over 500,000 doses of ARVs, anti-malaria drugs, HIV testing kits, and other medications were recovered from the suspect’s residence in Katete, Nyamitanga, Mbarara City South Division. Six individuals including Ogwal Moses, Okodi Edmund, Odongo Haron, Omach Andrew, Odiya Alexander and Kiiza Emmanuel were arrested and will be charged for; conducting business of a pharmacist without a license, illegal possession of government stores, among others.

We have concluded enforcement operation in districts of Kitgum, Kwania, Amolatar, Pader and Gulu, closer 45 drug outlets, including illegal pharmacies illegal drug shops and stores from where 189 boxes of assorted medicines worth over UGX 125 million were impounded.

Breaking: We have arrested Odoi John, a Health Assistant at Kifamba HC III in Rakai, Nakuya Jackie, an Enrolled Nurse at Kiwangala HC IV in Lwengo and Julius Babalanda Kabuure, a medical clinical Officer at Kyazanga Health Centre IV in Lwengo for theft of government drugs.
