UNFPA in South Africa

Honourable Members, As I begin I ask that we remember those who have lost their lives, homes and livelihoods to the severe flooding that has struck many parts of our country over the last week. At least ten lives have been lost and thousands of people have been displaced. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families mourning their loved ones, with those who have lost all they had and with the owners of businesses have been destroyed. To the first responders, emergency rescue teams and disaster relief personnel in the affected provinces, we offer you the nation’s gratitude. To the authorities, relief organisations and community-based structures on the ground, thank you for all you are doing to assist our people. To every South African who has stepped in to help, Enkosi. Baie Dankie. Ngiyabonga. Ke a leboha. Thank you. To all those who have been affected, we stand with you. We will spare no effort to reach you, ensure you are safe, that you get the relief you need and to help you rebuild your lives. #RamaphosaQandA
