Pro-Life Committee Chairman @BishopDEThomas sends letter of support to @MarshaBlackburn and @virginiafoxx for the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act. "We have consistently called for the separation of abortion from the Title X family planning program, but organizations like Planned Parenthood, despite performing hundreds of thousands of abortions every year, continue to receive millions of dollars in taxpayer money annually. This legislation would build upon Congress’s efforts to end access to taxpayer funding for one of the nation’s largest abortion providers, as was done with the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act." usccb.org/resources/Lett…

@BishopDEThomas of Toledo, chairman of USCCB's Committee on Pro-Life Activities, tells congressional appropriators that the Hyde Amendment and related life-saving provisions are "as important as ever," and urges appropriators as they continue markups of FY2027 bills to "to work together towards a better way that protects human dignity, offers solutions, provides support, and ultimately empowers parents and children in all stages and circumstances of life to have the positive futures that they deserve." usccb.org/resources/Lett…

Three U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' committee chairmen urge Congress to oppose legislation that would impose a new insurance coverage mandate to cover life-ending technologies such as IVF. @ArchbishpSample of Portland, Oregon, chairman of USCCB's Committee for Religious Liberty; Bishop Edward Burns of Dallas, chairman of USCCB's Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth; and @BishopDEThomas of Toledo, chairman of USCCB's Committee on Pro-Life Activities, write: "We have written to Congress multiple times expressing our grief for the growing number of families suffering infertility, and expressing our corresponding support for life-affirming, but often overlooked, restorative reproductive medicine. For several reasons, we expressed our necessary opposition to legislation that would expand the use of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) such as in vitro fertilization (IVF). It is regrettable that we are now compelled to write again on account of the 'Helping to Optimize Patients’ Experience (HOPE) with Fertility Services Act' (H.R. 8119), a bill that would impose a new federal insurance mandate to cover such life-ending technologies and procedures, which we firmly oppose." usccb.org/resources/Lett…

As Congress considers FY2027 agriculture appropriations, the US Conference of Catholic Bishops and Catholic partner organizations address the moral and human dimensions of appropriations legislation. Archbishop Shelton Fabre, chair of the Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development, Bishop A. Elias Zaidan, chair of the Committee on International Justice and Peace, @CCharitiesUSA , @CatholicRelief, the National Council of the United States Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and @CathRuralLife write to Congress detailing how agriculture appropriations should support families, feed hungry people, help the most vulnerable farmers and farmworkers, strengthen rural communities, and promote good stewardship of God’s creation. usccb.org/resources/Join…
