Today marks four years since my aunt, Shireen Abu Akleh, was killed by an Israeli sniper in Jenin. An iconic journalist, and one of the most empathetic and sweetest people. This is who they killed. She loved life, but they stole hers from her.

Today, I received multiple messages from relatives in Gaza saying that Israeli forces have been opening heavy, random fire in northern Gaza. Bullets have struck the walls of bombed-out buildings where they are sheltering or staying nearby. “If I had stepped outside, I would have been hit by a bullet or two,” a relative told me, as more bullets were still being fired around them. Over the past weeks, I have been reporting on Palestinians who have been killed or wounded after bullets hit them inside their tents.
