Interior indicated in its statement that it considers solar part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to ramp up domestic energy production, which is needed to power energy-intensive data centers that are needed to win the artificial intelligence technology race with China. "Utility-scale solar, while not a baseload source, plays an important role in diversifying domestic power generation,” the statement said. “Expanding energy capacity by utilizing resources on public lands is critical to meeting the Trump administration’s broader goal of increasing reliable domestic power production — a key factor in supporting advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence.”
