Name of the game? Fractions In The Wild! ♥️ How to play? Notice how fractions are multiplied in the real world. How to win? Make blueberry muffins with your new knowledge! @LincolnMagnetIB @USFLauren

@SaraJBenincasa I was once wearing a brown faux fur coat in Chicago, and some guys drove by and yelled, "Da Bears!"

@scv74980610 @SaraJBenincasa My child was that way when she was younger. She hated long sleeves. LOATHED. She wanted tanks and sleeveless shirts only. I called her anti-sleevery. My best mom joke. It’s still her preference but I think her hormones changed and she doesn’t run as hot anymore.

@SaraJBenincasa Of course, this same daughter was resistant to wearing clothes, even in the dead of winter, & many a fellow NYer expressed their concern to me re: how she should be dressed. I felt like I should wear a sign stating, "I have a hat/coat/gloves for her, but she won't wear them." 🙄

@BrynnaMcF I just read the book and re-watched the movie. I am fascinated by the general American obsession with this particular book and movie so I’ve acquired some facts about it.

@Maire_from_NJ Same. But that doesn’t stop me from watching every single tutorial video that shows up on my social media promising to make it easy. Every last one.

@Altotus @PaulCottlePhys @jmcin9 OpenStax was what I was thinking of. Ty. You raise a good point about appropriate texts for reading level of student. We would have to pay attention to that for struggling readers in science courses for sure.

@USFLauren @PaulCottlePhys @jmcin9 I was at a private school until November and got to choose my own books. Once I saw what we were asking parents to pay, I switched to OpenStax, which is run by Rice. My classes were AP or the prereqs so we could just use college books.

If you could write a bill for the Florida Legislature that was intended to encourage students to consider and pursue careers in engineering and the sciences, what would you put in it?

@Altotus @PaulCottlePhys @jmcin9 Sure. I see that. I feel like this is where PLCs and PLNs are useful. Let’s all help each other. Also, not NO books, just use free and cheap ones (CK-12 prints low cost or is free online, there are a few other open source books...Univ of Texas, maybe).

@PaulCottlePhys @jmcin9 @USFLauren Walking in where no one uses textbooks (maybe the plan was to use them but it didn't happen because LCS's chromebooks were delayed), it can be a challenge to start teaching a new course without one. And then there's ensuring device/internet access for all.

@PaulCottlePhys We still have it bc $$$ / publishers / lobbyists. I don’t hate textbook publishers, BUT I also don’t want our kids educated by the top 2-3 publishers. I want kids educated by their human teachers who get to choose the best text or hands-on resources for the instruction.

@PaulCottlePhys The whole textbook adoption situation is trash. We spend so much $ on them when free texts are available online or very inexpensively for print. Book $ could go to equipping teachers with what they need to DO science rather than books full info that’s freely available elsewhere.

@BrynnaMcF Definitely works. But I’m a fan of trying new styles and going bold. An excellent choice! Regardless, as you said, it’s everyone else’s problem if they don’t love it. You aren’t really in need of their approval or even their opinion. 😉
