On July 23, 1885, former United States president, and Civil War general, Ulysses S. Grant passed away while fighting throat cancer at a secluded cottage in Mount McGregor, NY. This colorized image, which is courtesy of the Library of Congress, was taken on June 27, 1885.

We had the pleasure to receive a visit from Howard Lee Martin of Ohio. Howard served as a First Class Seaman in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. We thank him for his amazing service to our country!

#OTD in #History, 1870, Hiram Revels became the 1st Black Member of #Congress. Called “the Fifteenth Amendment in flesh and blood,” Revels took an ardent pro-slavery secessionist's seat—which a Senator said was “a magnificent spectacle of retributive justice.”  #BlackHistoryMonth
