The Secret Service should be thankful AF this morning that this event wasn’t targeted by a terrorist group because the vulnerabilities were obvious. Heads should roll. They know the threat landscape especially in wake of the Iran crisis, and nothing about this security posture suggests they are taking it seriously. This was not just the President in attendance, it was the Vice President, senior Cabinet officials including the Secretary of War, and the Director of the FBI. This goes well beyond a do better moment, this had the potential to be a national level security disaster.

I don’t understand why VAPD cannot use basic GEOFRECING to get ahead of the meet ups that result in mass gatherings. This is pretty a basic law enforcement function these days .

I would like to show you the ugly side of politics. This is not unique to Va Beach, but it is on full display. Last Thursday, the City Council held a vote to determine whether a curfew would be implemented on the oceanfront. Before making their decision, they opened the doors for the Public to come in and comment under the auspices of neutrality. However, the below picture shows otherwise. What you are looking at is Va Beach staging the ability to close the roads and implement a curfew zone. This is completely appropriate if it was being staged after the vote was taken. However, this picture was taken on Thursday afternoon before the vote on City Council. What this demonstrates is that the elected leaders in Virginia Beach had no intention of listening to the Public or being persuaded by public comment. They had already made their minds and the public hearing was nothing more than political theater - and the city manager was making plans to implement the curfew before it was approved. Very sad. But this is how it works. Anyone who went to the public hearing and spoke against the curfew, wasted their time. We should do better than this for our citizens.
