A Christmas greeting from the King. FDR and Eleanor received this card 80 years ago today from King George and Queen Elizabeth. The famous Hot Dog picnic had taken place just 6 months earlier in Hyde Park. @FDRLibrary @NPS_HydePark Current Queen on the left. @RoyalFamily

Cake & togas!?! On #FDR's birthday January 30, 1934, there were more than 600 celebrations across the country that raised more than a $1,000,000 for polio research. At his own Birthday Ball, his inner circle dressed in togas to fit a Roman theme (NAID #6728531) #NationalCakeDay

While Roosevelt typically used USS Potomac for weekend fishing cruises on Chesapeake Bay, it also served state purposes. In 1939 the ship conveyed the president, first lady, and King George VI and Queen Elizabeth of Great Britain to George Washington’s tomb at Mount Vernon. (3/7)

President Franklin D. Roosevelt liked to relax on the water, and he deemed USCG Cutter Electra his presidential yacht. The 165-foot ship was converted and renamed USS Potomac in March 1936. (2/7) Credit: Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum / NARA
