The “I’m suffering more than them” line pisses me off wayyyyy more than it should. But to spell it out: Amorim did not play for United. He did not grow up supporting United. Amorim was invited to United. That is his only connection to the club. When he’s gone, he won’t give a fuck about our results. He’s a guest. A passenger. A page in a book. And fans, in 20 years, will not remember his name outside of pub trivia. He’s given us no reason to think of him otherwise. If he’s suffering, it’s a result of professional pride (or, more aptly, delusion). He does not care about the club as much as we do. And he is not suffering as much as we are. Perhaps it’s this misguided belief— that he’s somehow the one who feels worst— which enables him to abandon the principles we still hold onto— youth, courage, success.
