How many swipes does it take to find love on a dating app? About 4,000, according to a new survey showing that the average U.S. user parses through that many profiles over eight months before finding any luck.
And that’s only counting the ones who do. The vast majority of users don’t come away with long-term partners. Others burn out while scouring a bottomless pool of potential mates.
Ditching the apps might actually improve your chances at love—or at least save you some screen time.

My boss's boss is like 42, never married, no kids. Earns $275-300K per year. Goes on a minimum of two international vacations a year w/ his girlfriend. 10+ days, all out.
Eats the best food, stays in top notch accomodations. Excursions, tours, nicest beaches, etc.
Great guy, I'm happy for him.
But what I've realized is that without kids, you end up chasing a lifestyle that has to continually be topped in order for you to be satisfied and find happiness.
What he and others like him don't understand is that when you have children, seeing THEM experience life's most basic things and watching their eyes light up at all the "firsts", brings greater pleasure and joy than any vacation or travel experience ever could.
Seeing THEM try blueberries for the first time is greater than dining at the best 5 star restaurant in Europe.
Seeing THEM learn how to walk is greater than walking the Great Wall of China or strolling along the most picturesque beach.
Watching THEM giggle uncontrollably at "peek-a-boo" tops any A-list comedian act.
Seeing THEIR excitement when building a fort out of cardboard boxes and making a door big enough for daddy is superior to staying at 5-star resorts.
Flying kites with THEM far outweighs excursions like parasailing or helicopter rides.
Seeing THEM perform a recital on stage for the first time is more rewarding than watching a Broadway show or top notch symphony orchestra.
-----------------
When you have children, all of a sudden you realize that life's greatest joys are not in the pursuit of things or pleasure or travel, but rather in the LOVE and bond you share with your very own image bearers.
Seeing the beauty and magnificence and wonder of life all over again for the first time through THEIR eyes and expressions gives you something the world simply cannot offer, nor even come close.

@Ubbered @dreamdisturber @JimDMiller Did you miss the “most of the time” part?
The 6’7 son is not going to have 7 foot sons, they will regress towards the mean, probably 6’4/6’5.
English

@BinzMarieK @dreamdisturber @JimDMiller my grandpa: 6'2"
my grandma: 6'0"
their son: 6'7" multimillionaire CFO
English

@dreamdisturber @JimDMiller Regression to the mean prevents tall parents from creating ever taller children. The children will be much taller than average but most of the time they will not be taller than their parents.

@AaronJRolen @Empty_America There's a definitely a heat element to this. Growing up in Oklahoma, it's unbearable to do any kind of work outside for most the year. It's only unbearably hot in the north for a week or two in August.

@Empty_America Grew up in NE TX, close to Okalhoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. Moved to to South Dakota for undergrad.
I remember being shocked that trailer parks and many rural homes didn't have a bunch of random junk on the ground like back home.

Going to a wedding in rural Wisconsin was one of the more shocking experiences of my life.
No junk, no trailers, everyone looked healthy.

Everyone always shows the dilapidated midwestern/eastern gutted towns but never show the Upper Midwest Germanic rural order. It's quite a stark difference once you see the Appalachia's. Fresh gravel every year. ORDERLY. Everything under cover.

You will never own a home. Your purpose is to provide value to your employer. You will move thousands of miles away from your family because the jobs have been shipped to shithole countries full of third world bugmen. You will become a meaningless cog in an uncaring machine run by globalist hook nosed coin clippers and their diversity hires. Your income will be eaten up by taxes funneled to welfare for nogs and bean eaters, rent jacked up by foreign investors, and car expenses from commuting through streets overrun by illegals. One third of your life will be spent sleeping, the other third will be spent working for beans and slant eyed bugmen who undercut real wages. The last third will be mostly taken up by chores and errands while dodging urban jungle crime. You will be too exhausted to do anything meaningful with what little precious free time you have left. You will visit your family once or twice a year, watching them slowly fade away from your life until they perish in a country flooded with invaders. You are living in the most prosperous time in human history for everyone except you and your kind.

The plan is greater Israel by any means necessary. That’s it. There is no other 12D chess going on here. The war is destroying the petrodollar, they don’t give a fuck. It’s not part of some deep strategy involving energy resources, it strengthens China immensely. They don’t care. They will burn everything to the ground to try to get greater Israel.
It was a common error in analysis to treat the Iraq war as “stupid” or “a mistake.” Paul Bremer dismissing the Iraqi army, obliterating the state through De-Ba'athification, creating the insurgency. It doesn’t make any sense as a strategy unless you understand that the war was for Israel.
The Iraqi state had to be pulverized so it could never again threaten Israel. Iraqi academics, engineers, specialists of all kinds had to be killed or chased out in terror. Then ditto in Libya, ditto in Syria. The only plan is to try to do that to Iran.
None of this was “a mistake.” None of it was “stupid.” The actual goals were just different from the justifications presented for public consumption.
The Israel lobby is immensely powerful but a war with Iran was always the one thing they couldn’t get. U.S. state planners since the Iranian revolution have understood what closure of the strait of Hormuz would mean. It is apocalyptic for the maintenance of the petrodollar that the U.S. empire depends on.
The lobby has been working our government for decades now. They’ve finally got a president blackmailed enough and a deep state zogged enough that the initial start of the war could go forward. Now they’re riding on the back of a tiger.
The cost of living crisis is coming home. They have to keep the war going over what will be increasing civil unrest. Eventually they’re going to push Trump into doubling down. The goal is to go nuclear. That’s what they think is the way out. Nuking Iran.
This is genocidal madness. It’s why everyone in Congress needs to be held accountable for not funding a single dollar for this illegal war. It’s why the anti war movement in this country needs to wake up and recognize that we are in a crisis moment. Our passivity will be taken by the ruling class as permission to do the unthinkable.

Most people can afford kids. The reason they think they can't afford kids is because they're afflicted by class dysmorphia.
The urban apartment, travel habit, premium mediocre foodways, and other lifestyle consumption is all a cope to cover for the fact that most college educated Americans are no more elite than a plumber or bodega owner.
When you have kids, this illusion comes crashing down: You can afford the takeout, the vacations, the 401k contributions, but you can't afford the private schools and $1M+ home.
If you acknowledge you're of the great unwashed and not a temporarily embarrassed elite, you can almost certainly afford kids by just living like your blue collar peers do.
Fish Stark@fishstark
To be clear: I’m getting married this year & am deeply, fanatically excited to be a dad! But we & many other couples my age (30) are having the heartbreaking convo “can we afford as many kids as we hoped” “they just want to play phone games” is deeply unempathetic & pedantic
