Some Nigerians, Ghanaians and Kenyans have been led to believe that Cameroon’s President has appointed his son as Vice President. This is false. The claim appears to have originated from a report by Arise News, which cited a supposed decree allegedly issued by the Unity Palace. The document, however, is fake. The misinformation quickly spread across several media platforms in West and East Africa, many of which treated the claim as fact. What MMI News understands is this: Cameroon’s Parliament recently voted on a bill to amend the constitution and reintroduce the position of Vice President. However, Paul Biya has not yet signed the bill into law, and no Vice President has been appointed. As of now, the claim that the president’s son has been named Vice President is false. Notably, the media outlets that amplified the story have yet to issue corrections. #MMINews

“The president didn't say anything that was not necessary. He said just what was relevant in avoiding unnecessary verbosity and word salad. And fourthly... you saw his chest frame—up and right, to indicate that he is there, he's in charge. ‘Despite all the rumours I am still the one in charge’. Talking about the duration, it was a 27-minute speech. Now that reminds me of Winston Churchill. He said a good speech is... he likened it to a lady's skirt. It should be long enough to cover the subject matter and short enough to entice and retain attention,” Ashu Nyenti on Biya's speech. - buff.ly/40dWtDD Mimi Mefo Info
