#TheRighttobeaGirl | #EndChildMarriage With the support of @mundocooperante , we are taking a powerful stand✍️ On September 4th, we convened a critical meeting in Rubindi Sub-county, Mbarara District focused on implementing and strengthening By-Laws specifically to end child marriages and promote Education. This collaboration brought key stakeholders committed to change. In attendance were: • The Sub-county Chief • The Community Development Officer • Five levels of Local Council Chairpersons • Dedicated Women Councilors • Our legal advisor 📌The by-law to address child marriage and promote education is being enacted in full accordance with the legal provisions of Uganda. Specifically, it aligns with Article 176(1) of the Constitution and Section 39 of the Local Governments Act, Cap 243. These laws mandate that lower councils have the power to create by-laws, provided they are consistent with the Constitution and other parliamentary laws. We are incredibly hopeful that these efforts will come to fruition and we create a safer and more prosperous future for the girls in Rubindi community. Together, we are building a legal and social framework to protect the most vulnerable.

Chair @NuryTurkel: “Uganda’s draconian new law egregiously violates the human rights, including religious freedom, of LGBTQI+ people. Int'l law prohibits govts from coercively enforcing religious interpretations on people who do not agree with them.” link.edgepilot.com/s/5481b9bc/oTJ…
