Uwezo Uganda@UwezoUganda·
To the young people of Uganda: at @UwezoUganda, our vision is "a society in which all children are learning and realising their full potential". Over many years now, we have worked to highlight that foundational skills especially the ability to read, comprehend a text, and or perform basic calculations are nurtured as the building blocks for every other skill. These are your gateway to critical thinking, mastering a trade and enabling you actively participate in your community and country. Furthermore, through initiatives like the Action for Life Skills and Values in East Africa (ALiVE) of the @alive_programme, we have focused on nurturing values and life skills such as; problem-solving, self-awareness, collaboration and respect among others; to help you navigate the complex future world. We urge you to value these basics and embrace lifelong learning, for your potential is the foundation of Uganda's future.

The Election Resource Centre, in its recently released report, reveals that just 13 of 68 candidates (19%) in the 2025 by-elections were women. We must increase support for young women to step into leadership and decision-making roles. It's time to close this participation gap. #HerVoice

More from our Targetted Business WorkShops Meet Tamari Nansasira: In 2024, Tamari of Kigando 1 started her journey with just a few chickens and a big vision. What began as a small-scale effort transformed into a big enterprise when @YfcUganda stepped in providing the critical support of additional birds and poultry feeds to scale her operations. Today, her business is growing. Tamari has successfully expanded. With each bird selling for 30,000 UGX, she has turned a modest start into a sustainable livelihood. #EYDCD #YouthAtWork

Our #EYDCD program’s bi-annual workshop in Isingiro was a major success! We covered essential ground on product marketing, market linkages and the legalities of forming a business. The highlight, however, was the plenary session where beneficiaries shared their success stories. It is incredible to see the tangible progress we are making with the youth of Isingiro District especially women and young girls. #YouthAtWork @CRVPF1 @UgandaCenter @DigitalChronic4

Pig Projects funding the future of girls’ education in Rubindi. Every few months, a quiet but stressful calculation takes place in households across Rubindi Sub County. Families sit down to tally the cost of uniforms, books, meals, and transport. It is a heavy burden. From our partner @UwezoUganda findings, 9.2% of households in 2022 cited prohibitive expenses as the reason some learners did not return to school. In essence, affordability is not just a financial metric; it shapes the very destiny of a child. It decides who gets to learn and who stays behind. In rural Uganda, poverty is also one of the barrier to a girl’s education and this often drives them into #ChildMarriages At Youth Fraternity for Change (YFC-Uganda), we believe empowerment shouldn't be a one-time gift—it must be a permanent engine. That is why we have deepened our focus on sustainability. The “Bank on Four Legs” Model We are now supporting parents with livestock, primarily through piggery projects. But there is a special twist to this initiative: the projects are registered in the names of our girls. Why pigs? The math is simple but life-changing. Pigs have short gestation periods and large litters. For a mother in our program, a single sow can produce two litters a year. When those piglets are sold, the income is not just “extra money”It is the exact bridge needed to cross the gap into the next school term. Why This Matters: ✍️A Shift in Mindset This initiative is doing more than just paying fees; it is changing how our community thinks. We are witnessing a positive shift in mindsets about girls’ education across Rubindi Sub County. ✍️Steady Income: The livestock will multiply over time. In a few months, parents will be in a stronger position to educate not only the children we directly support but also their other children. ✍️Self-Reliance: Vulnerable families are becoming more autonomous. Caregivers are gaining the means to meet household needs without relying on external aid. ✍️ A Safeguard for Girls: Families are increasingly valuing girls’ education as a way out of poverty and, crucially, as a safeguard against child marriages. Looking Ahead 📌Sustainability is the power to plan for tomorrow without fearing today. By turning a piggery into a school fee fund, we are helping families move from vulnerability to agency. We are proud to stand with these caregivers as they prove that when a girl is valued and her education is secured, the whole community prospers. #GirlsEducation #EndChildMarriage
