@aaron_benj87286 @Empty_America I mean I look at the post-punk bands like Joy Division, The Cure, The Smiths all had these dramatic poetic Catholic/High Church background and that music is basically impossible to come out of the US.

@aaron_benj87286 @Empty_America Wales vs Scotland is actually a good proxy for what behaviors and physiognomy got transmitted to the angloshphere and which ones didnt. Darker hair, "respectable" low-church Protestantism/methodist characteristics, contact sports. Gareth Bale acts and talks like a Midwestener

@Empty_America In the millions of second generation Irish that have been here in the States i don’t think any of them looked like the Gallagher brothers of oasis. Very brute British in a way that Australians or southern Americans would never see

@Empty_America This is just America vs UK. Loads of British bands didn’t become popular until the internet. Oasis is the biggest example

The Smiths didn't used to be a major band, mostly listened to by low-rider Chicanos for some reason. Jennifer Connelly was sort of a B+ celb in the 90s. Few Americans knew who Kate Bush in the 80s, she wasn't even on MTV much if at all. Retroactive Celebrity.

@Empty_America Do young people know that The Smiths were not a big band when they were around?

@UltimateLM30 @Empty_America George strait streaming + record sale data crushes MJ and that doesn't include the deep cultural effect of Mexico/South America Bigger than MJ. Easily. "Amarillo by morning" has been played more by humans than "they don't care about us"

There isn't any secret world of modern country music, no act "you probably haven't heard of" that is better, no "deep cuts" you need to hear. It's all right on the surface, the best stuff is just George Strait, radio classics like "Amarillo by Morning" and so forth.
David Scott Harris@HVNYrefugee

“Amarillo by Morning” is the greatest country song ever written, and the lyrics, “I ain’t got a dime, but what I got is mine, I ain’t rich, but Lord, I’m free” are the greatest lyrics.

I doubt many Spring Break kids still do the thing where they drive 12 hours packed into a car, then stuff 6 people into one hotel room. Probably more like flights, private rooms, maybe sharing with one friend, etc. Affluence.
daz@MetamateDaz

My Gen Z cousin told me he spent $5K for spring break (flights, hotel, drinks etc.). I would drive to a beach, 6 of us in one car, all share the same hotel room, eat ramen, and go to the club before 11 so entry was free. am I just a boomer now or is that insane?

@HooliganWyrd The grunge bands had very large male fanbases compared to Poison or Aerosmith.

This is a correct take, and per the BAPist theory I assume that all this powerful Dionysian energy produced a major fertility spike in the '60s and '70s relative to the more bourgeois-Christian 1950s? A veritable baby boom, even? x.com/RogueScholarPr…
Rogue Scholar Press@RogueScholarPr

The intensification of sexuality & glorification of the male sexual impulse which BAP calls for is exactly what the cult of rock n roll was from its inception with Elvis all the way through to the 80s, which is why Paglia called rock n roll the fullest expression of the Dionysian

@RogueScholarPr You even conceded that fertility declined thanks to abortion and the pill, “Dionysian” rock n roll did nothing

@RogueScholarPr Dude just give up your crusade on grunge lol, it was really not this massive consequential thing that killed the West. Plus plenty of mopy rock bands were hugely popular-black sabbath, Pink Floyd, even the cure and Depeche Mode became stadium acts by late 80s

It's more ridiculous than that. The scene claims music connects blacks to their ancestors and descendants. So it includes African tribal music, a black rock star, and classic hip hop alongside the twerking. There's also Chinese dancing for the Chinese characters in the scene. It's just one of the many ridiculous elements of Sinners.
Shaniqua Posting Delusions@DeIudedShaniqwa

This movie is set in 1932 and there’s a woman twerking in modern sportswear. How tf did this garbage get 16 oscar nominations?

@Empty_America If you feel modern sexual morals are more strict than any other times outside of the 2000s, you must be around incel adjacent guys. It's crazy out there, some circles of normies would put actual whores of past eras to shame.

Yeah I'm not "mad" at the outlandish BAP article. Honestly, an actual Dionysian society would be *better* than the current secular-puritan, neo-moralist thing. Which is perhaps the drabbest, most sterile, and most anxiety ridden ideology ever invented by man.
Pascal-Emmanuel Gobry@pegobry_en

Still LOLing at "Making Catholicism the state religion, banning divorce and abortion and contraception? Obviously unrealistic. You should consider my sober proposal: a state cult of the phallus." A+ work I'm not even mad

You’ll never see anyone who performs extremely well academically do performative aesthetic “studying” like this, these types barely scrape by. All of their material is external, hardly any substance internalised Doesn’t just apply to studying either. Many life lessons in there.
