A CALL FOR FAIRNESS, ACCOUNTABILITY, AND STUDENT WELFARE
To the Management of Kwara State University and Relevant Authorities,
We write to respectfully draw urgent attention to a matter that continues to affect the daily academic experience and well-being of students.
Recent changes in campus mobility have significantly altered how students navigate the university environment. Many are now required to cover long distances on foot from the park to lecture halls and faculty buildings under harsh weather conditions, with limited or no viable transportation alternatives.
Despite this development, transport fares have remained unchanged.
This situation raises a fundamental question of fairness.
Students are now expending more time, more physical energy, and facing increased daily strain, yet there has been no corresponding adjustment to cost or provision of adequate alternatives. For a student population already managing financial and academic pressures, this imbalance is not only burdensome it is unsustainable.
The implications are far-reaching:
- Reduced class attendance and punctuality
- Physical fatigue affecting concentration and learning outcomes
- Increased stress levels and declining overall well-being
We acknowledge that decisions affecting campus movement may have been made with safety and administrative considerations in mind. However, responsible leadership requires that such decisions are accompanied by measures that protect and support those most affected students.
Where restrictions exist, there must also be relief.
Where policies are enforced, there must be balance.
We therefore respectfully call for:
- A review and possible adjustment of current transport fare structures
- Improved and accessible transportation alternatives within campus
- Consideration of student welfare in all mobility-related decisions
This is not a confrontation. It is a constructive appeal for fairness, equity, and responsive leadership.
Students are the core of this institution. Their welfare must remain a priority not an afterthought.
We trust that the appropriate authorities will give this matter the attention it deserves and take timely steps toward a more balanced and supportive system.
For fairness. For dignity. For students.
