Men’s football Men’s basketball Men’s hockey Volleyball Women’s basketball Every student has to pay for them. But oh no, we can’t find money to literally flip the lights on to reinstate men’s indoor track. 🙄🙄 startribune.com/new-u-student-…

Seeing @UMNews @GopherCCTF men do so well at the @NCAATrackField championships thus far is heartwarming. It means that all our work to save the team in 2020 was worth it. My goal was to help that kid whose name I would never know. Years later, I can say that I have. @UmnMen

In the NCAA, Black athletes are only in 3 sports in large numbers: football, basketball, and track. So when schools like @UMNews cut track and field, they are cutting their Black athletes who don't make them money. Read my piece in the @StarTribune here: startribune.com/college-sports…

I have been given NO REASON why the democrats in the House refuse to agree to call the joint convention to elect 4 new Regents to the U of M. Please, ask them why. We have to elect them in this session or the special session, or the Governor will appoint them. Why are House Democrats conceding our authority to @GovTimWalz ?
Kristin Robbins@KRobbinsMN

We need an agreement to hold a Joint Convention to elect new Regents for the ⁦@UMNews⁩ before we adjourn tonight. We should not cede our Constitutional duty to ⁦@GovTimWalz

@philtheburns @Gopherated Regents are not good at analysis of athletics. They just listen to AD Coyle’s recommendation and rubber stamp it.

@Gopherated I don’t understand how there contracts are legal with public institutions… or why the regents approve them… the whole thing is laughable

For the “Fire PJ” crowd, the U would owe him $22.75M if that happened during/after this season. There’s zero chance they will write that check.

I wonder how many future track and field olympians would be denied access to educational opportunities if collegiate track programs are cut back? Where would they train? Who will coach them? Where will they compete?

@WatchDogUMN @mejh1963 @UMNews Indoor men’s track costs $150,000 Mark Coyle got another raise, this time $300,000 Can we find a different AD for a million American dollars and reinstate sports instead? Apparently the regents don’t think so

Remember when I asked if all the increased admin and director salaries would lead to a tuition hike at @UMNews back in February? AD Coyle makes $1.4M… and now there’s a proposed 4.5% in-state tuition hike and a 5.5% out-of-state tuition hike on the table… Checks out..
Watch Dog UMN@WatchDogUMN

So we got to reading…. AndThere’s a proposed increase for Athletic Director Mark Coyle’s salary. This amendment would increase his annual salary from $1 Million to $1.4 Million. Are you kidding? Does this mean ANOTHER tuition hike is coming to float the extra costs?

A @TCBmag top 100 person is UMN Regent Janie Mayeron - ? Remember that she was the swing vote at UMN to cut the sports teams, she wanted Outdoor Men’s Track kept because of the bad PR of cutting so many black athletes. She was fine cutting indoor track. tcbmag.com/tcb-100-people…

@soneill06 @WatchDogUMN So we have to ask ourselves, why is someone getting over $300,000 as a raise, half the cost of a team he cut, of a good team… that will have diminished future success forever? Why are the regents so bad at this

@soneill06 @WatchDogUMN Not when you cut teams Men’s track doesn’t have indoor and that team used to win big ten titles fairly often. Imagine having to recruit now for it - near impossible.

I’d like everyone to realize the going rate of ADs. The average salary of a D1 AD is $600k, with the avg Power 5 AD making $900k. When looking at the Big Ten, this raise would make Coyle the 2nd highest paid AD, passing Penn State and being only behind Ohio State

If approved by the Board of Regents, Gophers AD Mark Coyle's contract extension will keep him at Minnesota through 2030 and raise his salary to $1.4 million. @RJstrib has the report: startribune.com/gophers-ad-mar…
