فصل جديد للأمم المتحدة في العراق مع اختتام ولاية بعثة الأمم المتحدة لمساعدة العراق (يونامي)، يواصل فريق الأمم المتحدة في العراق عمله تحت قيادة المنسق المقيم للأمم المتحدة. ويعمل فريق الأمم المتحدة بالشراكة الوثيقة مع حكومة العراق لدعم الأولويات الوطنية للتنمية، من خلال إطار وثيقة التعاون الإنمائي المستدام للأمم المتحدة (2025–2029) التي تم توقيعها في 25 كانون الأول 2025. ويجسد هذا الانتقال خطوة واضحة نحو تنمية طويلة الأمد ومستدامة، تقودها القيادة الوطنية، وتستند إلى مؤسسات أقوى وشراكات فاعلة. ومن دعم تنويع الاقتصاد والعمل المناخي وإدارة الموارد المائية، إلى تعزيز الحماية الاجتماعية والحوكمة والحلول المستدامة، تواصل الأمم المتحدة دورها كشريك موثوق وملتزم بدعم حكومة العراق.

التقى المنسق المقيم للأمم المتحدة في العراق، غلام محمد إسحق زي، اليوم مع معالي وزير التخطيط وكالة، الأستاذ الدكتور خالد بتّال، حيث جرى بحث سبل تعزيز التعاون في تنفيذ إطار التعاون للتنمية المستدامة (#UNSDCF) للأعوام (2025–2029)، بما يشمل هيكل الحوكمة وآليات التمويل. كما تناول اللقاء دعم الأمم المتحدة لجهود العراق في تنويع الاقتصاد وتعزيز الاستدامة المالية، مع التأكيد على أهمية توسيع دور القطاع الخاص كشريك أساسي في تحقيق أولويات التنمية الوطنية.

UN Resident Coordinator in Iraq, Ghulam M. Isaczai, met today with Acting Minister of Planning H.E. Dr. Khaled Battal to discuss implementation of the Cooperation Framework #UNSDCF, including governance structures and financing mechanisms. Discussions also covered UN support to Iraq’s economic diversification and fiscal sustainability, with both sides underscoring the importance of stronger private sector engagement to advance national development priorities.

Preserving Iraq’s cultural heritage is key to strengthening social cohesion and sustainable development. Great to see this important initiative led by @UNESCOIraq with EU support.

The United Nations family in Iraq extends its warmest congratulations to H.E. Mr. Nizar Amedi on his election as President of the Republic of Iraq and wishes him every success in his tenure in office. The United Nations welcomes the election of Iraq’s new President by the Council of Representatives and considers it an important step towards the formation of a new government following the 11 November 2025 parliamentary elections, in line with constitutional timelines and provisions. This development marks a significant milestone in safeguarding the constitutional order and reinforcing the country’s democratic process. The United Nations also wishes to express its sincere appreciation to H.E. former President Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid for his valued support to the work of the United Nations in Iraq, and for his contributions to strengthening cooperation and advancing national priorities. We extend our best wishes to him in his future endeavors. The United Nations reiterates its continued support for efforts to strengthen stability, advance inclusive governance, and uphold the democratic aspirations of the Iraqi people.

The UN Resident Coordinator Ghulam Isaczai and WHO Representative Dr. Jamela Al-Raiby convened with the Minister of Health, Deputy Minister, and General Directors of Health to advance the national health emergency response plan jointly developed with the Ministry of Health. The discussion underscored critical pillars for action to ensure sustaining essential health services. Strong emphasis was placed on enhancing coordination mechanisms and accelerating data and information sharing to enable real-time, evidence-driven decision-making.

عقد منسق الأمم المتحدة المقيم، غلام اسحق زي، وممثلة منظمة الصحة العالمية في العراق، الدكتورة جميلة الراعبي، اجتماعاً مع وزير الصحة ووكيل الوزارة والمدراء العامين للصحة، وذلك لمناقشة تنفيذ خطة الاستجابة الوطنية للطوارئ الصحية التي تم تطويرها بشكل مشترك مع وزارة الصحة. وسلطت المناقشات الضوء على ركائز أساسية للعمل لضمان استدامة تقديم الخدمات الصحية الأساسية، مع التأكيد بشكل خاص على تعزيز آليات التنسيق وتسريع تبادل البيانات والمعلومات بما يدعم اتخاذ قرارات فورية قائمة على الأدلة.

On 2 April, Mr. Ghulam Isaczai, the Resident Coordinator for Iraq, welcomed Mr. Qassim Al‑Araji, National Security Advisor for Iraq, and his accompanying delegation to the United Nations Compound in Baghdad. During a meeting with the UN Heads of Agencies in Iraq, the parties discussed the security situation in the country and current challenges. The United Nations thanked the NSA for its continued support and for making the protection of diplomatic missions a priority for Prime Minister Sudani and his office. The Resident Coordinator reaffirmed the continued presence of UN offices in Iraq and the strong partnership with the Government of Iraq in support of advancing national development priorities.

On 31 March United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres announced the appointment of Mari Yamashita of Japan as his Senior Representative for the Implementation of Security Council resolution 2792 (2025). Following the conclusion of the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) on 31 December 2025 and in her role as Senior Representative, she will support continued progress on the outstanding issue of Kuwaiti missing persons and property, including the national archives. Ms. Yamashita brings to the position a broad range of experience with the United Nations based on a career spanning over 30 years working on preventive diplomacy, peacebuilding and external relations, both at United Nations Headquarters and globally. Before this appointment, she served as the Officer-in-Charge of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hudaydah Agreement (UNMHA) in Yemen, until the Mission’s closure on 31 March 2026. Prior to that, she was the Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office in Belgrade (UNOB), Serbia.

The Head of the UN and Resident Coordinator in Iraq, Ghulam M. Isaczai, joined H.E. Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Diab Abdullah, and partners to mark World Water Day.
