You’re not here to go Viral. You’re not an infection spreading for attention. You’re here to create something real, something that resonates deep within you, whether the “Algorithm” approves or not… Satisfy your soul.

My mother, Alhaja, as she was fondly called, was a drama Queen. I will narrate just one story today. So my mother entered a bus, and the driver drove past her bus stop, even after she called his attention. When she complained, the conductor suddenly chose violence 😭 He started abusing her loudly: “Awon iya aje! Eko osi kuro! Iya aje!!! Huuuuu!!!” (You witches! Poverty-stricken Lagos! Witch!!!) The bus stopped. At this point, my mother calmly reached into her bag and brought out a small container of Saturday Night powder. She blew it lightly, snapped her fingers kpaa! and muttered some very strange, very unnecessary words 😌 Then she stepped down from the bus. As she looked back… 😭😭😭 EVERYBODY in the bus had alighted. Men. Women. Everybody. They were walking towards her… genuflecting… prostrating… begging. “Ma, please forgive him.” “E ma binu ma.” “E joor, e ma binu.” They were now scolding the driver and conductor instead. My mum said calmly, “You people will take me to your office.” 💀💀💀 Everybody agreed immediately. The driver reversed the bus and drove her straight to the office. On getting there, my mother said, “Bring the conductor.” The passengers shouted in unison: “DOBALÈ!!!” The conductor prostrated flat. My mum brought out the powder again. Looked up to the sky dramatically. Blew it. She muttered another fake incantation, and the whole crowd responded: “ASE!” “AMIN!” She gently placed her hand on the conductor’s head… SLAPPED IT 😭 and said: “Go in peace.” 😭😭😭😭😭 When she finished narrating this story to us at home, we almost died of laughter.🤣🤣🤣 Honestly… African mothers are not normal. They are a genre.🤣🤣🤣 I miss her so much.😭

FG Bans Teaching in Indigenous Languages, Declares English-Only Policy in Nigerian Schools The Federal Government has abolished the use of indigenous languages as a medium of instruction in Nigerian schools, making English the sole language of teaching from early childhood to tertiary level. Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced the new directive on Wednesday at the Language in Education International Conference 2025 organised by the British Council in Abuja. The two-day conference, themed “Language, Education and Inclusion: Empowering Every Learner,” brought together policymakers, educators, and experts from across Africa, South Asia, and the UK to discuss strategies for improving learning outcomes through language. Dr. Alausa explained that while preserving Nigeria’s local languages remains important for cultural identity, English offers a more effective and globally competitive medium for learning. “The English language should be used to teach our students at all levels as a means of instruction,” he said. “Over the years, the use of mother tongues in schools has contributed to poor performance in national examinations. The national policy on language has therefore been cancelled.” He described English as a “unifying tool” for Nigeria’s diverse population, noting that research showed students taught primarily in English perform better in exams like WAEC, NECO, and JAMB. According to him, the decision marks a shift from emotional attachment to local language identity toward evidence-based education policy. Meanwhile, the British Council reaffirmed its support for inclusive and equitable learning across Sub-Saharan Africa. Julian Parry, Director of English Programmes for the region, said language can serve as “a bridge to inclusion, identity, and opportunity.” Also speaking, Chikodi Onyemerela, the British Council’s Director of Programmes in Nigeria, highlighted the organisation’s Pan-Ethnic Classrooms Programme, launched in 2015, which helps teachers apply inclusive and language-responsive teaching practices.

It is unfortunate that, 60 years after independence and nearly 30 years of our celebrated unbroken civil rule, our democracy is still marred by undemocratic practices and values. A significant percentage of our elections are deeply flawed—manipulated to serve the interests of a select few rather than reflecting the true will of the people. Governance at most levels does not reflect the genuine values and aspirations of the people because the welfare of the citizens is often neglected in practice. Looking at the ongoing crisis in Rivers State, we see yet another glaring example of how our democracy and governmence is not serving it's purpose, the welfare of the people of River State. The disagreement is not about improving the measurable indices of development: education, healthcare, or lifting people out of poverty but rather for reasons that do not in any way benefit the people of Rivers State and Nigeria in general. I fully understand the impact of what is happening in Rivers State. The real losers are the people—their welfare and the future of the society their children will live in. My respectful appeal to all those involved is to reconsider their positions and reflect on the grace God has bestowed upon them as leaders. They must think about the suffering people of Rivers State and work towards a better future for their children. My commitment remains to continuously remember them in earnest prayers and to advocate for their well-being. I also appeal to well-meaning Nigerians and the Federal Government, in the spirit of true democracy and good governance, to use their offices to restore normalcy and bring an end to this crisis. A new Nigeria is POssible! -PO

The performance of the Ministry of Interior has been disappointing, leaving Nigerians to suffer from its inadequacies. Despite significant funding, the ministry's leadership is viewed as weak, and essential services are rife with inefficiencies. A thread/
