Genuinely how was this not a pen? Early in the season. Right here a late Gabriel winner. I understand proximity to an extent, but like, I don’t see how you can let this be legal.

Sums up my thoughts. He wanted to disallow it. Whole tone of the conversation before the decision leaned toward keeping a good goal.

That VAR audio is criminal. Firstly you can hear them saying “is that enough contact” then they agree there are fouls from Trossard on Pablo and Rice on Mavropanos but show the ref the wrong angle who tells them to hurry up. The ref was absolutely desperate to disallow. Criminal

@BossTHFC No. It doesn't Touching the ball negates the foul unless the tackle is excessive or endangers an opponent. Come on, I'm Spurs too but this is mental. The fact that there's no consensus nearly 24 hours later shows it's an impossible one to call. Grow up and move on.

How on earth is this not a penalty. 10 seconds to check this and deny a Clear penalty whilst they’re giving the Arsenal decision yesterday after 10 minutes despite it being much less clear and obvious. The officiating in this league is a disgrace. What a joke.

Apart from one really good run into the box, Tel’s been pretty disappointing this half so far
Had a couple opportunities where Porro or another player was making a dangerous run into the halfspace but he never wanted to make the risky pass forward
He’s not the only one mind and I don’t mean to single him out. Overall we just dont want to make any risky plays and everything seems to nervy. Even Richy’s touch in what would’ve been our best chance was so so poor
Need to pick up the energy second half 🔋

Do we want corners where every defender can two-hand hug their opponent? So that small pussies like Odegaard and Trossard can negate how small they are vs. larger opponents? At some point, you have to say we want this out of the game; and start calling pens. Scandalous.

I think the main reason so many people are so angry about the VAR call
Is because of how much they celebrated the West Ham goal
It was a sobering, probably embarrassing moment to realise how Arsenal conceding made them more excited than their own team scoring

There is so much going on in this play it’s insane. You could easily make the case that there’s a pen for the foul on Soucek, who (I think) Havertz does a reverse takedown on.

@adrianjclarke Neutral here. Think it’s pretty clear it’s a foul on Raya. Yes, there’s other stuff going on in the area but none of it affected the goal bar Raya being fouled. Arm across him AND shirt being pulled. Not a controversial decision, just a critical time for it to happen.

People see what they want to see but Raya was clearly fouled as he was about to catch the ball.
All the other stuff going on in the box is usual corner kick nonsense. Raya is prevented from catching the cross. That trumps everything.
There's no controversy. Great VAR call.
