Decided to make a hypothetical 2040 Defence forces organisation. It’s ambitious in comparison to what will likely materialise, but in terms of general ambition of what an Irish Military could look like I don’t think it is overly so.
For the army I reinstated the 3 brigade structure, reestablishing units disbanded and reassigned them to their original brigades. The army reserve would encompass 2 distinct types, the territorial defence brigades being a “second line” reserve designed for mobilisation in times of national emergency, and a first line reserve augmenting active army units. The armoured brigade is probably an unlikely development, tho it is in truth just a mechanised infantry force mounted in tracked as opposed to wheeled systems with 120mm tracked afvs.
The armoured battalions would contain a company of 120mm light tanks aka an if with a 120mm as opposed to an auto cannon on an ifv variant, and 2 companies of infantry mounted in tracked ifvs. What’s much more likely would be 1 and 2 brigade to transition to light mech and mech brigades and then the establishment of 4 brigade as an armoured force later, however in my design I altered it in order to make the garrisoning of unit types make more sense, ie 4 western brigade in lighter shelled platforms, and so on.
The rest is pretty self explanatory, and was fun to make.
