“...Because you might as well be dead. Seriously, if you always put limits on what you can do, physical or anything else, it’ll spread over into the rest of your life. It’ll spread into your work, into your morality, into your entire being. There are no limits. There are plateaus, but you must not stay there, you must go beyond them. If it kills you, it kills you. A man must constantly exceed his level.” Bruce Lee.

When I had my first baby in LUTH in 2003, the doctor walked in confidently to sew up my episiotomy without any lidocaine. I closed my legs and told him it was not happening. He got angry. That this is something he does everyday and it is not as big a deal as I was making it. I refused STILL. When he saw how stubborn I was about it, he then said they didn't have any. I got my mum to go and buy; waited a while and then got sutured later. Apparently, it is a common practice even in Nigerian government hospitals. Lots of people said they were told it was not necessary. I think it is a barbaric practice and doctors who do it should be ashamed of themselves. Many women consent because they think the doctor knows best. Going through so much pain immediately after vaginal birth should be outlawed.
Mama Abi-girl 🥰@tomisin_ms

They said Beating a woman not wanting to be sutured without anaesthetic is a normal practice o….they are trying to save her life….Jesus be a fence!

My eldest sister gave birth, and I was told to go help her out as it was her first child. I was there, and I decided to go to the market to get some clothes for myself, I brought the clothes home, and was testing it for my sister to tell me if it's okay or not. I wore the first one, and as I tried on the second one, my sister said ha, don't come and use clothes to snatch my husband, I said sister what did you say? She repeated it again, then I knew it was my time to leave. I stayed for a while and left. Some few years later, I got married and later found out they things wasn't so well with them, she called me and I offered to send some money to her which she agreed. Some minutes later she called me back again and said I'm the one using her glory. The sisterhood bond between us broke that day till today.

This is exactly what I mean when I say you don't have to lie - you just have to frame it professionally. Notice how He didn't even say "I'm in Nigeria but I want to work for US clients." He said..."I move around quite a bit, so I'm more of a digital nomad. All of my clients are in the U.S. and Europe, and I've worked with several brands internationally." Same truth. Different positioning. He shifted the conversation from where he is to who he works with. That's the skill. When recruiters ask "Where are you based?" they're not asking for your GPS coordinates. They're asking - Can you work in our timezone? Can we pay you easily? Will communication be smooth? Answer those concerns, not the literal question. You're not lying. You're translating your reality into the language clients understand. The recruiter didn't care that he wasn't sitting in New York. He cared whether the work arrangement would function smoothly. It would. This is what I've been teaching... positioning beats location every time. You don't need to hide where you are. You just need to lead with what matters to them - your availability, your ability to deliver, and how easy you make their life. Sweet conversation Indeed. That's the strategy.

When I first moved to the UK, I was squatting with my mom’s younger brother, who by the way is freaking rich!!!! He’s lived here for most of his life and would visit Nigeria only during Christmas. Married a white woman and has kids. I looked up to him, admired him and he was one of my favorite uncles. We had a good relationship for the longest of time before I left Nigeria. However, after moving into his house I realized he is deputy Satan. He treated me like shit. Talked down on me like I was beneath him. Would mock my “Nigerian accent”. One day he saw me using the microwave and asked if I have ever used one in my life or if we had one in Nigeria. Asked if I knew what a washing machine is. Me? First class graduate from FUTO with my IELTS band 8.0. Many things I can’t remember now but one thing I can’t forget was one time his wife and son travelled in the summer. It was on a Sunday and we’d just got back from church. I decided to make us lunch and so with my money I got stuffs from the shops. I made him barbecue fish with plantain. Specially. I was happy doing something nice for this man. He accepted it after I served, or so I thought. I went into my room until the next day when I was leaving early for work. Just as I was about leaving the door, he called me back in. Asked why I decided to make him food yesterday. I responded that I just wanted to do something nice for him and since his wife wasn’t at home to cook for him, I decided to. He looked me dead in the eye, said I should never offer anything again to him, told me he left “my fish” in the kitchen and I should take it back. lol I grew up in so much comfort that I’d never experienced “maltreatment” and anyone being condescending to me until my adult life. Till today, I still ask God to help me forgive him because I’ve never hated someone in my entire life this much. It was so bad that at a point I also resented my mom for being his sister. I resented their entire family. 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Please study the Qur'ān. I beg you, don't just listen to the sweet voices or just read in Arabic. Study it in your preferred language and make sure to think over it. Muslims are thinkers. Muslims are ponderers. Muslims are readers. Pleased read. Read Islamic contents. Read Islamic History. Read Islamic legislations. Please read, as a Muslim. There's so much abundance of knowledge, nuance and guidance in this deen that will never be exhausted. And the fun fact is that all of them are derived from the Qur'ān. All with basis and rulings. This is why scholars derive immense depths and benefits from verses you would randomly skim past on a windy Tuesday evening. Please, read the Qur’ān. Please. May Allah grant you steadfastness upon haqq.

I worked with a Firm in Lagos few years ago. I was pissed when I resumed and they told me the IT Firm building their website is yet to deliver in 4 months. I shoot them an email to know the update, I was told they couldn't work cos of Covid. I wan craze (you can't work ?) I was more crazy when they delivered the Home Page for Test and approval. And They charged 8m Naira for this ??? I can set this up in 2 weeks and even fetch the inventory from any software in such a way that your software controls but your online inventory and offline inventory. It was taking time and I was impatient, I told MD I can do it and it was done with the way I wanted. Guess what? I was given an award of "Most Promising Staff" plus 50k.. I felt used and insulted. Most of the time, your in-house staff can do what you wanted to give out to a Consultant. But the Bible says, a prophet is not honourable in his own city

We hired a consulting firm to tell us why our profits are down. They sent three 24-year-olds wearing vests. They spent two months interviewing us about our own jobs. Then they put our answers into a PowerPoint presentation. They charged us $250K for this privilege. During the final readout, one of them used the phrase synergy optimization without blinking. I looked around the conference room. Our CEO was nodding like he just received the Ten Commandments. The grand conclusion was that we need to increase revenue and decrease costs. I could've told them that for a gift card to Panera. But nobody listens to the guy who works here. You only listen to the guy who flies in on a Tuesday. I'm updating my resume to include synergy optimization. It feels like the right move.
