A journalist asks Carles Puigdemont (@KRLS) why he doesn't return to Spain and faces justice. The answer given by his lawyer, Gonzalo Boye (@boye_g), is simply brilliant:

The Catalan language is still not allowed in the European Parliament. Despite the willingness of the European institutions to allow its use, the Spanish Governments have always blocked such possibility.

This is a devastating indictment of Spanish political parties: almost none of the major parties are offering common sense solutions for the Catalan political crisis. Common sense: -Free the Catalan political prisoners. -Let the Catalans decide which country they want to be in.

*I have been using interchangeably the words "police officer" and "police agent", but it seems this last term is not correct in this context. Sorry for any confusion, and feel free to correct me if you find mistakes in future tweets.

If a police agent says he saw hate in the face of people, those feelings have legal relevance. If a lawyer asks a police agent if he paid attention to an unconscious person, that doesn't have legal relevance, because according to Marchena, this question is about... feelings.

Pablo Iglesias spent the 2016 general election campaign promising a referendum in Catalonia, stating that it was the most prudent solution to the conflict between Catalonia and Spain. His party ended up being the most voted in Catalonia in such election.

Today several political leaders are facing years in jail and exile for holding a referendum.
