This H-1B worker has lived in the US for nearly 20 years and built a family here. His mom was dying in India. To visit her, he would need to wait months to book a consular appointment--with the soonest one available likely being scheduled one year out. He made the difficult choice of not visiting his dying mom because leaving without an appointment would mean separation from his children, job, and his other obligations. Much of the commentary around immigration focuses on how such bureaucratic burdens undermine immigrants’ ability to contribute and innovate. But we must remember that this red tape also prevents these people from being fully engaged with their own lives and meaningfully present in the lives of others. This matters too, and these seemingly non-economic problems will eventually translate into economic costs. If America is no longer a place where people feel empowered to be the best versions of themselves as they celebrate, struggle, and grieve, it ceases not just being the land of opportunity, but also the land of dignity and purpose. linkedin.com/posts/gautam-d…

Sometime after the last LS election in TN, BJP took a tactical call. They extricated Annamalai, and stopped meaningfully backing AIADMK (who had backstabbed BJP in the elections). This election was BJP light, I reckon they have allowed Vijay to get rid of DMK, while trying to also make AIADMK irrelevant. The space for BJP will be created by the demise of AIADMK, and the next election is likely to be a trilateral one - Vijay, Dayanidhi, and BJP. I reckon BJP feel they can pull that one off, Annamalai will be back.

Many have praised me for getting Bengal right. But they have missed that I missed TN. I completely underestimated TVK and miscalculated how they will impact DMK/ADMK votes. Tremendous performance by them. Kudos to Vijay and how he has fought to get such great results on debut.
Aravind@aravind

@krishiv2023 Both DMK and TMC will go next elections, respectively. BJP will take Bengal. AIADMK TN.

@MRVChennai No, the next election. My thoughts are the gameplan will be clearer in the LS election and the next state election will be a clear three way fight between Joseph, Annamalai, and Udhyanidhi. AIADMK is pretty much going to be consumed by BJP.

Not really. Annamalai will be back with a bang. This time it was important to get rid of DMK, let Vijay do that business. This is a marathon, not a sprint. Many more laps to run and the final tape is a bit away. TN is not yet ripe for the final flourish, it will be by the time the next election comes. Wait and watch!

BJP persisted with Suvendhu in Bengal for 5 years, results are there to see. Became impatient with Annamalai in 2 years. Results are there to see. Somehow BJP seems to get TN wrong somehow.

Yes, there is universal consciousness, and that exists on smaller levels too - countries, states, towns, villages, homes. It is important to keep exploring, keep questioning, and 'tuning' out the noise driven by ignorance. Eventually that's how change happens, though as you say often the triggers for change are reeked with violence and pain. All the best to you on your journey!

Most people just get emotionally triggered, and once that happens, it blocks their ability to think clearly as it also blocks their ability to experience compassion It’s all very much on purpose, and all of this has been intentionally manipulated and targeted to essentially Weaponized our emotionality and use it against us It takes a very strong heart to be able to transcend this manipulation and an even stronger mind to be able to meaningfully assess things that are inherently and emotionally triggering I think a lot of of us are starting to successfully do this though, and though it may not seem like much I think in time it’s going to be very powerful We live in a world of so many lies, and all of us are forced to learn them in the name of education that later proves to have been nothing more than propaganda and indoctrination, and that of course brings its own existential dilemmas and realities that are so difficult that I have realized I can’t force them upon others in a way that does anything but caused harm This last bit took a while to fully understand, but what I’ve also learned is that we human beings are harmonic so the more balanced we individually are in the less the world is spinning, the more powerful whatever signal we are broadcasting becomes So though it may not seem like much the more individual conscious beings stop spinning, and begin clearly broadcasting a signal of truth Well, this will make the conduits more and more available and more and more people will be able to access these things and perceive those things long hidden behind lies and malice and manipulations I think it represents its own exponential curve and will probably be far more powerful than it may seem right now Consciousness has a way of igniting and some call at the hundred monkeys theory, which I think were basically the idea that when enough conscious beings have realized a certain truth that it suddenly spreads like wildfire throughout the remaining zeitgeist So it seems to me that there’s a built-in safe here as when things get sufficiently messy it may be that we trigger what is necessary to correct the course Personally, I think we’re stuck in some kind of cyclical paradox where we go between periods of what we call a golden age where we all remember who would we are and create heaven on earth and then for whatever reason go into a dark age where we do the opposite only to wake up and do the whole thing again and again and again I think some of us have some degree of memory of this and it manifest in many ways, but I think people drawn to things like old world, research or mysticism that dissolves things like nation states and various identities Well, I think we are the people who wake up All of the prophecies also include this particular group as there’s so many that describe apocalyptic situations yet always acknowledge that there seems to be a handful of beings that somehow survive these things I certainly don’t know, but I think we’ll find out and that might be fun and exciting It’s probably why we’re here to begin with and I’m sure when we get our memories back it will all make sense But then I think at some point, we’ll decide to do it again and maybe that will make sense at the time and then we’ll wonder for however many lifetimes it takes why lol

Yes, agree to all that. In addition greed has meant stealing resources from those well less placed to defend them - through coercion, corruption, or war. The long term effects will be seen on the citizens - broken societies, strife, inequality, and general angst. It is not good to build foundations for the next generation on exploitation - it only lasts so long. All large empires have extinguished sooner or later - and yes this is true all over the world, through eons. Be it Egypt, Rome, Anglo-Saxon, Viking, Inca, or the many in India and China. The ones commenting on this thread with hatred live in fools paradise, thinking they are invincible and will live for ever.

Well, it seems to me that the problem is very deep and has been going on a very long time I mean, if you’ve ever driven across the United States, the vast majority of it is empty land In my opinion, in a civilized country, one of the main things, the government would do would be to help its citizens acquire land and provide them with the resources to make it fruitful If all of us were being educated in a school system that taught us actual skills like agriculture or woodworking or basic mechanic or literally any of the old world skills like stonemason or glassmaking We could quickly build a completely different world where everyone has skills and purpose, and we were able to cultivate gifts that could create beauty and functionality in our world as we once did But for at least a century, there seems to be a considered effort to remove people from the land versus bringing them to the land and helping them make it fruitful I think what we’re seeing now is just sort of the late stage of a very anti-human anti-civilization plan that basically seeks to enslave all of us and keep us fighting over things that don’t matter as they do Migrated in school in life is really just to get a small farmstead where myself and my family can live and ideally my friends and family as it seems ideal to me for us all to live that way and it makes me sad. We’ve grown up with generational propaganda that tells us that we should all be apart and that everyone should break apart limited a child turns 18. It’s all very sad, but it seems like it’s all a concerted effort to isolate us and strip us of all the meaning that life would otherwise have in bountiful proportions I swear to the Amish had it right all along I mean, it’s basically the Shire

Any amount of whataboutery will not help you solve the problems you have. The US has a problem with it's immigration and citizenship system - it does not respect or reward people who contribute to the country, it has become a political tool. You can keep comparing to howsomanyever countries or systems, that doesn't make it good. It just makes it seem less worse than others. Most of the comments here are completely ignorant and reductionist.

Agree - any country should focus on upskilling and supporting it's own people to be competent and skilful. The US has been importing talent from relatively cash poor societies as a cheap fix. That however should not stop it from treating such resource with respect, but it doesn't do so. That reflects on the underlying psyche of the administration. Remember: all non-native Americans were immigrants only a few generations ago.

Well, imagine if instead of squandering resources to lure foreign people to be slaves in our country we use those resources to empower our own citizens? That’s the real issue here and no one seems to want to talk about that, but it would affect all of us regardless of which political Theatre triggers you most That’s the problem, though as all of this bullshit is designed to be emotionally triggering so that we’re all fighting over emotional bullshit instead of having the faculties to look at reality together so that we could come together and realize that we are all victim to the same previously identified bullshit

To all who are getting triggered and saying "go home" - I would suggest try to read how the US treated this one "immigrant", and what would you do if you were in a situation like the above. Then reflect on your own forefathers all of whom were immigrants. The only ones who weren't are now living mostly in reservations. And then lastly, no one actually cares what your opinions are worth - you too are merely slaving away to serve your billionaires, you just don't realise it.

Indeed. A crude analogy would be that of a bollywood girlfriend asking the boyfriend to deliver what he promised, or else... This is also a 'no-win' for China, even if UAE has no intention of following through with this threat - as it clearly puts China as a competing suitor. In any case, US has possibly factored that it can afford to lose UAE's goodwill (and oil) and still manage to keep it's oil supply going, though the cost will be higher. The real brunt will fall on Europe which is much more dependent on the middle east oil - of note recently a deal has been signed to allow Russian oil to flow into Europe via Ukraine! Overall the prolongation is going to increase tensions in all relationships - US/UAE in particular and it's a matter of time before something snaps - the current stalemate is stretching the elasticity to it's limits. @VEDANJANAM

The notion that India is warming faster than the global average is a misconception; the data presents a different narrative. Recent headlines often claim that India is warming at an alarming, unprecedented rate compared to the rest of the world, but long-term observational data reveals a much more complex—and surprising—reality. When we examine the seasonal temperature trends from 1995 to 2024, specifically during the critical March–May (MAM) pre-monsoon season, India emerges as a global anomaly. While the Arctic, Europe, and parts of the Middle East are experiencing "climate fever" with warming rates as high as 0.6°C to 1.5°C per decade, large swaths of the Indian subcontinent show a significantly more stable trend, often hovering between a mere 0 to 0.2°C per decade. This data suggests that the assumption of India warming "faster" than other regions is not only misleading but factually incorrect when compared to the global mean and high-latitude hotspots. This "Indian Warming Lag" is likely the result of unique regional factors that act as a temporary atmospheric shield. The high concentration of aerosols (dust and pollution) over the Indo-Gangetic Plain scatters incoming solar radiation—a phenomenon known as "solar dimming"—which effectively masks the full force of greenhouse gas warming during the peak daylight hours of spring. Furthermore, the maritime influence of the Indian Ocean and massive regional irrigation projects provide a cooling counter-balance that landlocked northern continents lack. While India is undoubtedly getting warmer, the actual rate of change is among the slowest in Asia, proving that local geography and atmospheric conditions continue to buffer the subcontinent against the more aggressive warming trends seen elsewhere on the globe. In short: India is not the warming epicenter the headlines claim it to be; it is, in fact, one of the most resilient regions against rapid seasonal temperature shifts. Most of the world's great traditions of ornamental masonry architecture faded away in the twentieth century. But one remained: the Hindu temple. The classical style of Hindu temples never died out, and in recent decades has grown steadily more vibrant and powerful. Much of the best traditional architecture in the world today is in India, or in places around the world where Hindu communities have settled. Temples still make little use of structural steel or even arcuation, relying instead on trabeated masonry like the ancient Egyptians and Greeks. Because stone does not corrode, these buildings will last for many thousands of years with minimal maintenance, far longer than the fabric of the modern cities that surround them. With the help of temple staff around the world, my friend Tilak Parekh has put together a wonderful review of modern Hindu temple architecture, looking at the ingenuity and sacrifice which created these great buildings. worksinprogress.co/issue/modern-h…

In 1971, amidst the mud & blood of refugee camps, 1 man defied the entire medical world. While doctors begged for IV drips that did not exist, Dilip Mahalanabis mixed salt & sugar in plastic drums & told the dying to drink. He was a ghost who used the physics of the human gut to defeat Cholera. He never patented his formula, choosing to save millions instead of making millions. He died in 2022, an unrecognized giant who gave the world its most successful medicine for the price of a pinch of salt. Born in 1934 in West Bengal, Dilip Mahalanabis was a pediatrician by training. He was a researcher at the Johns Hopkins University International Centre for Medical Research & Training in Calcutta. He spent his early career in the Silo of elite academic research, studying how fluids move through the human body. Despite his elite training, he was a man of the people. He did not want to stay in a comfortable air-conditioned hospital while a crisis was brewing. During the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, millions of refugees poured into West Bengal. A cholera epidemic broke out in the camps. People were dying in heaps. There were not enough IV fluids/needles/trained doctors. The conventional medical wisdom said: "Only IV drips can save a cholera patient." Dr. Mahalanabis knew the physics of S.N. De’s discovery. He knew that if he could get the concentration of salt & sugar exactly right, the gut would pump the water back into the body. He prepared the Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) in massive drums, using untrained volunteers to distribute it to dying refugees. The mortality rate dropped from 30% to 3%. He proved that a 5 paise solution was more effective than a 50 rupees IV bag. He never patented ORS. He believed that something so fundamental to human survival should belong to the world. Because there was no money/corporate patent attached to his name, the world used his work but forgot his face. For decades, he lived quietly in Calcutta. He was a global consultant for the WHO, helping eliminate cholera in dozens of countries, yet in his own neighborhood, he was just the retired doctor from down the street. He died in 2022. It was only after his death that many of his relatives & neighbors realized he was the man The Lancet described as the creator of the most important medical advance in the 20th century. We finally awarded him our 2nd highest civilian honor, Padma Vibhushan, but it came after he passed away. He lived & died a Ghost.
