If a woman speaks to a crowd of pastors, is it evidence of her teaching men? Or is it only “teaching” if she uses Scripture? Or is it only wrong if she explains Scripture, and in that case, does it suddenly become “preaching” regardless of the setting? Or is it only preaching if there’s a pulpit involved? A Sunday morning service? A title? Meanwhile, the same movement insisting women must never “teach men” somehow has no issue platforming women like Megan Basham to address rooms full of male pastors when it serves their cultural or political priorities. So apparently a woman can instruct, influence, warn, persuade, and shape the thinking of men… as long as everybody agrees not to call it “teaching.” She can serve, sweat, pray, and deliver the same exact message about Jesus as any man she knows- as long as we don’t call her a pastor. If this doesn’t feel like God’s heart, I suspect it’s because we all pretty much know it’s not.

I am a bit older than you, a single male, mainly because I spent my entire adult life being the primary care provider for four family members, three of whom eventually passed away. In my several jobs, I worked with people at the State facility and in convalescent hospitals. Many of these people struggled with Self-Injurious Behaviors. Many of them had truly damaged their faces and bodies, torn off lips, ears, poked out eyes, and those are the milder cases. To my shame, I brought it up at church and asked God about it. I will never do that again, and I can't repeat what was said about these clients. Next to showing grief, this was the unpardonable sin of toxic empathy. I still visit many of my old students and help them out, though the more severe cases I worked with have all passed on. I think they went to heaven myself. Another reason I will burn in eternal torment, or at least that is what I am told. In all this, I learned that deep inside of most people there is a touch of the divine, for lack of a better word, or more biblically, the image of God.

How old is old enough? I turned 61 this year. Apparently, it’s not old enough. It’s not old enough to not have my appearance, body, and clothes commented on by men on the internet, total strangers. Read more:

Today, words fail us. It’s been a long, hard battle the last few years. In times like this, the sacrifices and the struggles don’t even matter. A few hours ago we received the most earth-shattering news that our 20 year old son, Evan Roberts Locke, could not be revived after his heart stopped due to an overdose. His struggle was very public. It was used as a warning to many, a punchline to the haters but an overall reminder that even in our deepest pain, the grace of Jesus will sustain us. I’ll address the church family with arrangement details this Sunday. Please respect our privacy. He has 5 heartbroken siblings and a world of people that helped him along his journey.
