British Nationalists are so fucking tedious. The general populace never spoke Latin in Scotland, it was a language of the elite and the governing class. A few MSPs made a symbolic gesture to the history of Scotland by speaking in one of our indigenous languages, get over it.

Further, I don't think Hitler would have liked migrants and POC claiming Germaneness or suggesting that German is a cultural identity and not an ethnic one

The Clavie, a burning tar barrel carried through the town of Burghead every January 11th according to the old Julian calendar, is one of Scotland's oldest continuous folk customs. Scottish nationalism is built around an independent Scotland, not on the belief that Scotland is superior to any other nation/peoples and that Scottishness is a cultural identity, not an ethnic one.

The comments of this tweet are insane & show that Scotland lacks a population that's educated on their own linguistic history. Gaelic came to Scotland in the 5th century, at the same time as Old English, which evolved into Scots. Both are indigenous! I could go on for days

Also, like half of the languages used were languages INDIGENOUS to Scotland. If you have a problem with Scots, Gaelic, Doric and Shetlandic then you don’t actually love Scotland. You don’t even love "the Union". You just love England and wish everyone else would become English.
