Today is Refugee Rights Day, a commemoration of the Supreme Court of Canada’s 1985 ruling that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms protects the fundamental rights of refugees.
 
This is a time to reaffirm our commitment to upholding international law for refugees, asylum seekers and migrant workers. Yet, the Liberal government continues to violate their constitutionally enshrined rights. The passing of Bill C-12 has already resulted in the revocation of thousands of refugee claims and undermines critical health coverage for asylum claimants. These actions have been supported by the Conservatives and the Bloc Québécois. 
 
On this very important day, I call on the federal government to stop violating the human rights of refugees, asylum seekers and migrant workers.
