@rjs There's just so many hacks around estimations the only thing I've seen consistently work is building against a fixed resource limit with tight iterations to get the best possible work in the time available.

Estimating isn't just making up a number. A realistic estimate comes from doing spikes to map out what the work is. Then you sum the work. What people miss is that creating the estimate requires doing actual work to obtain the knowledge.
