This week, Dow Jones held a Global All Hands meeting where CEO Almar Latour said he was “confident” the union and management would reach a deal… at the bargaining table. It’s been *checks calendar* 337 days 🙄

More than a dozen of our colleagues were laid off yesterday. We're devastated and outraged for them. We demand answers from management – why are these cuts necessary during record profits and how many more will there be?

A message from our @IAPE1096 union:

We, the editorial staff and news team of MarketWatch’s New York office, have collectively decided to join our colleagues at other branch offices of @MarketWatch and @DowJones under @IAPE1096, a unit of @newsguild and @CWAUnion. 🧵

As WSJ Editor in Chief Emma Tucker said in an all-hands meeting earlier this month, these layoffs weren’t a “cost-cutting measure” and she wants WSJ to be “fit for the future.”

We are devastated that more of our colleagues at WSJ have been laid off this week across our World team & 13 union members were cut from non-News departments last week—all despite Dow Jones posting record profits in FY2023. 🧵

And we want to know why we are asked to work so hard for a publication that clearly doesn't show us respect. We deserve a fair contract, @DowJones.

We want to know why it has taken 260 days and counting to meet us on a fair union contract that allows workers to do our jobs without struggling to make ends meet.

We want to know why eliminating skilled workers, including reporters covering crucial topics at the core of our brand, is considered a sound business strategy that prepares us for that future.

It’s Valentine’s Day and we’d LOVE nothing more than for @DowJones management to agree that we deserve a fair contract, with inflation-adjusted cost-of-living wages & workplace benefits worthy of our hard work and contributions to their bottom line!

Despite Dow Jones' profits in 2023 being the highest they've been since '07, they still raised employees' health insurance premiums 30% and raises only 3%. Our fellow media workers deserve better. All workers deserve better. Write a letter supporting a fair contract!
