I mean, you’re an adult, and you can’t have a cigarette if you want?” Maher’s British guest suddenly got defensive when he pointed out how the United Arab Emirates paused government scholarships for students wanting to study in the UK, citing fears they could become “radicalized” over there. “Fake news,” she said. “This idea London is a no-go zone… people walking around with the Sharia law… A lot of that’s whipped up.” “Two Jews did get stabbed this week,” Maher fired back. Unpopular opinion but the right to vote shouldn’t be automatic. It should require passing a basic test on economics, finance, history, and how laws and public policy actually work… Pass it, you vote. Fail it, you don’t.

@Emma_A_Webb With respect, this will save the NHS millions alone never mind the obvious social benefits. The amount of diseases etc brought on by smoking are legion and I say this as a lifelong smoker. It's better to phase it out.

I don’t smoke. Never have. I have no skin in the game. But this really is draconian. It should not be within the power of the government to interfere with the personal choices of citizens like this.
