Our first two speakers this morning, Mr. Kagiso Mekoa and Mr. Bheki Nxumalo from Unisa Student Counselling and the Advocacy and Resource Centre for Students with Disabilities (ARCSWID), highlighted the essential student support services available at the university. Mr Nxumalo emphasised the importance of accessibility in digital learning, stating: “Students in Computing work with digital platforms every day. When those platforms are accessible, students can participate, demonstrate competence, and prepare for inclusive workplaces.” #UnisaCSETCareerDay #Unisa150andBeyond

It’s Day 2 of the #UnisaCSETCareerDay! Our Programme Director for today, Prof Mampilo Phahlane, Director of the Unisa School of Computing, has officially opened the programme with an inspiring message to all students. She encouraged students to immerse themselves fully in today’s sessions and to engage actively with the ICT sector exhibitors stationed outside. Prof Phahlane also reflected on Unisa’s motto, “Pro gentibus sapientia” — “learning in the service of humanity.” She reminded students that the past two days are a testament to the university’s commitment to shaping futures and strengthening work readiness. #UnisaCSET #UnisaCSETCareerDay #Unisa150andBeyond

Earlier today, @unisa CSET Executive Dean, Prof Bhekie Mamba welcomed students to the School of Computing Career Day on behalf of our Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof Puleng LenkaBula. He echoed her words by quoting from the Sankofa principle, “Reach back and fetch what you forgot, the wisdom of the past to shape the future.” As you embrace new technologies and digital opportunities, carry with you the spirit of Ubuntu. #UnisaCSETCareerDay #Unisa150andBeyond

The President of the National SRC, Mr Nkosinathi Mabilane, took the stage at the #UnisaCSETCareerDay with a powerful message for Unisa’s Computer Sciences and IT students. He reminded them that the solutions to South Africa’s ICT challenges rest in their hands and that innovation doesn’t have to wait until graduation. Students are encouraged to start developing practical, real‑world solutions now, using the skills and creativity they already possess. #UnisaCSETCareerDay #Unisa150andBeyond

Today I delivered a keynote address at the University of South Africa Water Imbizo, highlighting the urgent need for collective action as South Africa faces a critical moment in its water and sanitation sector. The Imbizo is more than just another event on the calendar. It is a necessary national intervention and a platform for honest engagement, practical solutions and decisive action to address the challenges confronting the water sector. As we mark National Water Week, it must be clear that water security cannot be the responsibility of government alone. It requires the collective commitment of all stakeholders including government, business, academia and communities. Addressing the country’s water challenges is a shared national responsibility that calls for unity, collaboration and decisive action. In closing, emphasis was placed on the importance of stronger partnerships across government, academia and the water sector. Evidence based solutions must guide our actions to ensure that no one is left behind as we work towards a water secure South Africa.
