Can somebody educated in politics explain to me how Mamdani is able to do all this stuff but no other politician is ever able to make any noticeable progress? How does he evade the same bureaucracy the other politicians always blame for not being able to do shit?

What they can control are taxes, minimum wages, deductions, etc. Are you saying you’d like government to seize control of consumer prices?

@BillAckman @melissadderosa Zohran had a simple fix but Hochul wanted to kick the can down the road. The reason the ultra rich pay the bulk of the taxes is because they have all the $$, duh. As disparity grows to historic levels, remember Zohran’s hikes wouldn’t impact your lifestyle in the slightest!

How is getting $8 billion from State coffers and $2.3 billion from deferring pension payments bringing a budget down to zero? The same NYC taxpayers that pay the bulk of NYC taxes are paying the $8 billion of state taxes that are funding the budget gap. This budget ‘fix’ is robbing Peter to pay Paul and it didn’t work out well for either of them.

I left the incoming administration with $8 billion in reserves, not a financial apocalypse. Albany election-year bailouts are not a long-term economic strategy. The free money dries up after Election Day, but the bloated “free” programs stay forever. And here’s the part the socialists in City Hall never want to admit: the millionaires and billionaires they love demonizing already pay roughly 40% of NYC’s taxes. Keep demonizing the people creating jobs, investing in this city, and carrying the tax base, and eventually they’ll stop investing here altogether. Facts are stubborn things. Even when some politicians aren’t.
