@SocTransitLover Maybe it’s a western thing idk but the Canadians I meet in my neck of the woods are definitely distinctive & do care about local issues related to culture that this guy never gives credit towards. It’s also a weirdly romantic view of American culture that I will never agree with.

Apocalyptic scenes in the Amazon. Illegal gold mining has literally turned the lush rainforest into a barren desert of sand. An area the size of 200,000 soccer pitches has been completely annihilated. The scale of this destruction is absolutely terrifying.

@atlanticesque I can have sympathy towards well meaning landlords who have to get rid of an unruly tenant. But there are also horrible landlords and there needs to be accountability for them as well.

Tenant protection laws hit these sorts of places hard.
Apartment hotels only work when the landlord can come in with a couple of goons and throw your ass on the street as soon as you’re intolerably late on rent. Hampering the eviction process makes the math just stop working.

We used to have these. They were called Apartment Hotels. They’d consist of a single room with a bathroom, housecleaning, a cafeteria and lounges. Imagine being able to rent month to month and not need to furnish an apartment. It was ideal. Nuts we got rid of these.

Before the election, they want to hand over what remains of the nation’s assets to the "Dynasty."

After the failure of the “Mini-Dubai” project, they now plan to hand over Budapest’s most valuable building, the Ministry of Interior, to the same Arab investor group. This magnificent building, a crown jewel of Hungarian state properties, consisting of three historic building blocks and spanning 41,000 square meters, was sold off at a mere 1 million forints per square meter. Orbán’s clique deliberately excluded the public, selling this irreplaceable piece of Hungarian national heritage to the sole bidder in a two-day online auction. The sales contract, much like the Mini-Dubai deal, was prepared by a law firm linked to the brother of Economy Minister Márton Nagy, a firm stuffed with state contracts. I hereby warn the investors and those involved in the sale: under a TISZA government, the National Asset Recovery and Protection Office will review this transaction, and if any irregularities are found, it will reclaim the building and hold those involved accountable through the justice system!

My defense of the Iranian people is humanitarian and patriotic, I am not a defender of the government.
My criticism of Israel’s prosecution of this war is based on those humanist principles, not anti-Semitism or conspiracy theories.
I invite both Pahlavists and Israelis who support this war to embrace humanism and abandon any ideology that drives them to defend or explain away the bombing of a girl’s school.
I invite Iranian Islamic Republicans to consider why their failed policies have brought Iran to the brink of destruction.
I invite all others to judge everything you see using the yardstick of humanity and justice.
