Yup! A new redesigned Flow. Hopefully exactly a reflection of what y'all have been asking for since the first release last year.

We have regularly started seeing bombastic, limit-pushing AI videos online, and I think we all know who I am talking about. The stated ambition is to make blockbuster cinema in a few days. The real ambition, I believe, is something older and less flattering: get in early, occupy the terrain, and close the gate behind you. Every major technological shift in the audiovisual industry has produced the same pattern: a brief window of apparent openness, then concentration of power, then a closed door. Some of those who rushed in were genuinely interested in the art. Others were interested in the money. All of them understood that timing was everything and that the business was the point. The films look impressive at first glance. Look more carefully and what you find is awkward uncanny valley, video game colors, no script, no soul, pure technical demonstration. Not harmless slop. Something more deliberate than that: a strategic instrument designed to build a new business on spectacle alone, before anyone else has had the time to think. I am as pro-AI as anyone, because I want to see it used for building a new language. But this is not a new language. This is derivative old Hollywood slop. I am more pro-art than pro-AI, and that distinction matters. It takes time for artists to develop a new language. It takes no time at all for people with no interest in art to churn out hard-hitting nonsense and beat you into aesthetic submission before the conversation has even begun.

The Daily Program Engaging with AI is not an act of surrender; it is a way of reclaiming the right to question these technologies from within. If artists withdraw, the conversation will be left to engineers, corporations, and policymakers alone. Art’s power lies in its ability to slow things down, to transform utility into reflection. That capacity is urgently needed today. What is required is not more efficient art, but art that disrupts efficiency. Art that tests the limits of what AI claims to know. Art that resists being reduced to output. In doing so, artists can help us perceive this technological landscape not as inevitable, but as something still open to critique, intervention, and reinvention. Today, we launch the February Daily Program. For three years straight, we've opened up our space to let artists show their ideas about these tools; what they can and can't do, how they break them, how new stories can be narrated, and to ask questions as to why these images matter today. 📌 Fellowship Presents → Daily Program | February Edition When art must battle moisturizer for a double-tap, its least marketable traits: weirdness, difficulty, ugliness, slowness, tend to get edited out. We end up with a narrow band of pleasant visuals: easy to like, easy to forget, all taste, no calories. The harder stuff, the sad song you replay to feel worse-than-better, is crowded out even though (or because) it’s the nutritional part of culture. At the Daily Program, we've been serving up weird culture for the past 3 years. This edition brings together 29 artists working across different approaches and tools, from text-to-video to image-to-video workflows that continue to be explorative propositions. The works offer a snapshot of the AI video field and its materialities. It lets us see how artists assimilate the constant push and pulls of the changing tools.
