@dig1y @WhiteFunk89 @gloomgaze He didn't! He spent the judge's review complaining that Jamie "cheated" on movie week because he hadn't heard of the film but Simon defended him saying "IT'S A CULT FILM"

@WhiteFunk89 @gloomgaze It was movie week on The X Factor and one contestant picked Roy Orbison's "Crying" from Gummo which baffled Louis Walsh

As somebody who saw EWS on 35mm (For the first time!) last I can absolutely say that the 4K version is much closer to what I saw. Particularly in the scene at the bottom I was amazed at just how HUGE the colours were

Ridley Scott ending his debut feature with a recreation of a painting of Napoleon having lost everything but with Harvey Keital’s character realizing he lost his entire purpose to live for his own self aggrandizement after losing the last duel is peak cinema.

@TrilbeeReviews Doesn't have much explicit connection to the previous at all, opening explains what happened in between weeks and years. You could watch this as a standalone post apocalyptic film if you wanted, different tone to the previous films too. Though rewatching Days is recommended.

For '28 Years Later', how essential is it to watch the first two films? I'm planning to re-watch 'Days' (not seen it for 20 years) but might not have time to watch 'Weeks' (I have no memory of watching it before) so I'm just figuring out my options here.

@bornposting Disagree, Last of the Timelords IS stupid but it's admirable and charming stupid as opposed to the insufferable stupid of Empire of Death

@roryisconfused Saw Mulholland Dr at the Prince Charles in February and the audience was well behaved, laughing at the parts that were meant to humorous (hit man, Billy Ray Cyrus, espresso) were dead silent from Club Silencio onwards.

Something’s definitely happening, and it’s a massive drag. There’s this bland, totally disengaged cynicism that the modern internet is only exacerbating; a belief that the only feeling you can get is the blank stimulation of empty ironic pose. I really do hate it.

honestly the crowd at angelika for this fucking sucked. i think a lot of you “cinephiles” are actually really baby brained and irony poisoned. (didn’t have high expectations but MY GOD)

After everyone had their say on our little True Romance post the other day. We thought we'd do a one-off DIGITAL REQUEST BOARD! So write your film requests in the comments below, and we'll do our best to get some of them on our screens!

@windomgirle @dementedkirby Saw a preview last week. There's a scene where Brody watches what i assume is a 20s porn film which is uncensored but the clips that it shows don't show visible penis, there's also a part in a brothel where you appear to see Brody's penis but it's hard to tell if it's real or not

And we STILL don’t have an MPA rating for The Brutalist. I wonder what the holdup is - the scenes I’ve heard about seem like garden variety R-rated stuff. Certainly no worse than anything in, say, The Wolf of Wall Street or Babylon.

@_LOHI_ Really good but not sure about a certain turn it takes in part 2, but it's the sort of film that'll stick in the mind and will rewatch on its proper release. Loved Vox Lux I should mention

@mrpleasantries @LesserFeat @sbodrojan It was Morton who made the comment, specifically calling Morvern Callar a "hobnob" and Aftersun a "digestive" it was more of a jokey comment pointing out its influence and being better rather than an angry complaint

it’s not talked about nearly as much, but in terms of influencing cultural taste, aesthetics, form, rhetoric - I genuinely believe Lynne Ramsay is up there with like, Lynch and Tarantino as one of the most *important* English language directors alive.
Film Updates@FilmUpdates

Lynne Ramsay’s ‘DIE, MY LOVE’ is described as a portrait of a woman (Jennifer Lawrence) engulfed by love and madness. Robert Pattinson plays her husband, and Lakeith Stanfield, her lover.
