The Fed rate cut is coming this wednesday. The main debate is should the Fed go in with a 50 bps cut or stick to a 25 bps cut. Over the last three decades , the Fed has started with a 50 bps cut when the economy was in the throes of a recession. Present economic conditions do not warrant a 50 bps cut but Fed futures markets are giving a more than even chance for the same. The Atlanta Fed GDPNow forecast for the US Q3 2024 GDP growth is at a robust 2.5%. However, markets are factoring in a Taylor Rule supported 50 bps cut, with the CME Fedwatch Tool showing a 59% chance of a 50 bps cut. Many Asian markets are shut today, so the cues are light. The Bank of England is expected to hold its policy at a "pause" on Thursday and the Bank of Japan could move markets on Friday, though it is also expected to stick to a "pause" for now. India is seeing increasing FII inflows and a weaker US Dollar will increase these flows. We remain optimistic on the Indian markets , backed by a strong macro , global central bank action and domestic plus international flows both providing a fillip to Indian markets. The Primay market is continuing its red hot streak as well . Overall as against expectations of a risk off move in the markets on Sep 16th that we projected at the start of September, we are instead seeing continued optimism at all time high levels. A mentee who works for a foreign bank treasury and is fully invested, wanted to borrow against his retirement( provident) fund and invest more in the market. With more than 75% of the present traders/IPO investors in the Indian markets a post-Covid generation who have only seen a spectacular bull market, this behavious could be the first canary in the coal mine pointing to incipient euhoria. Meantime the Global markets are behaving like the Roaring 1920s, which brought massive excesses on the back of economic growth following the end of WWI and the Spanish Flu. We are dancing to the music, while reminding ourselves the the Roaring 20s ended in the Great Depression of 1929 eventually. Hope we get 5 more years like in the 1920s !

Because Bikram Bhattacharya had a Road Accident and he was referred to RGKar Hospital, where he was not treated for 3 hours, (because doctors were protesting) while he bled continuously! Where is the demand for Justice for Bikram? Will there be Candle Marches for Bikram? Who will give justice to his Mother? Will the Anti Bengal Media Houses show this heart wrenching story? I, support the protesting doctors, their anger is justified, but it cannot be the cause of another loss of life. I, sincerely request the protesting doctors to provide medical services to all those who need it while continuing their protest, so that there is no further loss of life.
