@bbboatclub Not quite the same, but I've put an SD card with most of my music on my phone and use the vlc app. Maybe worth a shot?

And I'd go back to having all my music on an mp3 player in a heartbeat, because I miss actual random shuffle, and not this pretend shuffle that streaming sites have now

@MrNishKumar thank you so much for a wonderful show tonight in Aberdeen, and I'm sorry for disrupting your flow by nodding too vigorously at your nihilistic masturbation bit.

@TheLastLeg Hi there - I was hoping to pass on some information about a former guest/friend of the show. Is there a suitable email or can you briefly follow for a DM?

@ZachWeiner I'd argue guitar *specifically* is a bad example, as guitar was a very limited instrument before amplification. A 1500s guitarist would be unlikely to play to a crowd of more than 1-200 as they just couldn't be heard over the crowd, compared to a violin, trumpet or similar.

@vickrussotakes I mean live playing in particular. Of course Taylor Swift is one thing, but a regular working guitarist is presumably not playing live for 100x as many people as his equivalent from centuries ago.

Hey econs, stupid question about labor productivity. So, like, over time, wouldn't you expect, perhaps even desire, certain jobs to become less productive? Consider a guitarist. A modern live guitarist is doing basically the same job as a guitarist in the year 1500.

@raynefq I had a few talks with musicians and scientists in different roles. I heard "that's a really interesting question!" so many times, usually related to what I considered BASIC research, and I always wondered why other journalists didn't bother.

when i worked in music journalism it was genuinely crazy how openly grateful BIG celebrities were just to be asked a question that displayed baseline curiosity or critical thought about their work. I saw multiple huge artists pause interviews to say how rare/special it was

one point of optimism though is that esp in the midst of so much cultural dreck i think certain celebrities really do value being asked thoughtful & meaningful questions abt their work & that there will increasingly be cultural cachet in having real quality pieces written abt you

I've got two tickets for Beth Gibbons in Edinburgh on Tuesday night. Can't go, happy to sell at a loss if someone can use them. Anyone interested?

I've been a fan of Alice Fraser for a while. I was lucky enough to see this show in Edinburgh last year and it was quite possibly the best performance *of any kind* by *anyone* I had ever seen. Music, theatre, athleticism - I don't care, this was better. So, like, go watch it.
